Nuri Dzhelilov
Nuri Celilov (russian: Нури Джелилов, translit=Nuri Dzhelilov; 15 September 1913 – 14 December 1976) was an officer and tank company commander in the Red Army during World War II who was nominated for the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his bravery in combat. Early life Celilov was born on 15 September 1913 to a working-class Crimean Tatar family in the village of Qiziltash near Yalta. An agronomist and graduate of Yalta Agricultural College, became trained as a winemaker before being drafted into the Red Army in 1941. World War II Drafted into the Red Army immediately after the German invasion of the Soviet Union, he initially attended specialization training before being deployed as a political instructor in the 1st squadron of the 138th Cavalry Regiment. Taurida Governorate
The Taurida Governorate (russian: Тавріическая губернія, modern spelling , ; crh, script=Latn, Tavrida guberniyası, ) or the Government of Taurida, was a historical governorate of the Russian Empire. It included the Crimean Peninsula and the mainland between the lower Dnieper River and the coasts of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. It was formed after the Taurida Oblast was abolished in 1802 in the course of Paul I's administrative reform of the southwestern territories that had been annexed from the Crimean Khanate. The governorate's centre was the city of Simferopol. The province was named after the ancient Greek name of Crimea - Taurida. Today the territory of the governorate is part of the Crimea, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine. Cevdet Dermenci (russian: Джевдет Умерович Дерменджи, translit=Dzhevdet Umerovich Dermendzhi; 27 August 1918 – 1985) was a decorated Crimean Tatar captain and battalion commander in the Red Army. For his bravery in being the first to lead his landing group across the Dnieper during his second crossing of the river he was nominated for the title Hero of the Soviet Union, but awarded only the Order of Lenin. Military career Shortly after Nazi Germany invaded of the Soviet Union in Operation Barbarossa, Dermenci was drafted into the Red Army on 3 July by the Simferopol military enlistment office. Idris Bulatovich Khaybulaev (russian: Идрис Булатович Хайбулаев; 15 March 1915 – 19 October 1984) was a Crimean Tatar officer in the Red Army who rose from platoon commander to regiment commander during World War II. Despite being nominated for the title Hero of the Soviet Union in 1942, he was only awarded an Order of the Red Banner. Early life Khaybulaev was born on 15 March 1915 to a Crimean Tatar family in Crimea. Kostrzyn nad Odrą (literally Kostrzyn upon Oder) (; german: Küstrin ) is a town in Gorzów County, Lubusz Voivodeship in western Poland, close to the border with Germany.
