Nuno Frechaut
Nuno Miguel Frechaut Barreto (born 24 September 1977), known as Frechaut (), is a Portuguese retired footballer. A defender or midfielder, he could occupy a variety of positions. He amassed Primeira Liga totals of 233 matches and 11 goals over the course of 13 seasons, representing in the competition Vitória de Setúbal, Boavista and Braga. Frechaut appeared for Portugal at the 2002 World Cup. Club career Born in Lisbon, Frechaut emerged through Vitória de Setúbal's youth academy, making his first-team – and Primeira Liga – debut in the 1996–97 season, at the age of 19. He went on to represent Boavista F.C. until December 2004, winning the national championship for the latter in 2001 whilst appearing mainly as right back. 2000–01 Primeira Liga
The 2000–01 Primeira Liga was the 67th edition of the top flight of Portuguese football. It started on 19 August 2000 with a match between Braga and Vitória de Guimarães, and ended on 27 May 2001. The league was contested by 18 clubs, with Sporting CP as the defending champions. Boavista won their first league title, becoming only the second champions from outside the Portuguese "Big Three" (''Os Três Grandes'') of Benfica, Porto and Sporting, after Belenenses in the 1945–46 season. Listed below are the dates and results for the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds for UEFA teams. The European section of the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualification acted as qualifiers for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, which is being held in South Korea and Japan, for national teams which are members of the UEFA. Apart from France, who qualified automatically as defending champions, a total of 13.5 slots in the final tournament were available for UEFA teams. The 50 teams were divided into nine groups, five groups of six teams and four groups of five teams. The teams played against each other on a home-and-away basis. The group winners would qualify. Cap (sport)
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
