The Numurkah Football Club, nicknamed the ''Blues'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Numurkah located in north east Victoria. The club teams currently competes in the Murray FNL, which Numurkah (established in 1882) was a founding member in 1931. Murray Football League
The Murray Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league affiliated with the Victorian Country Football League. The league covers a large area of northern Victoria and southern New South Wales from Shepparton in the south to Deniliquin in the north. It covers much the same area as the Picola & District Football League but the teams tend to be the larger communities and towns. History The "Murray Football League" (MFL) was established in 1931, when it superseded the old Goulburn Valley Football Association, with the following clubs, Barooga, Cobram, Numurkah, Strathmerton and Tocumwal. Nathalia Football Club's admission into the MFL was initially rejected in 1931 by club delegates and they entered the Western and Moira Ridings Football Association. Berrigan, Finley and Nathalia's application for admission into the MFL in 1932 was rejected and they continued to play in their existing competitions. Duncan McIvor
Duncan McIvor (11 November 1884 – 18 November 1930) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). McIvor played in 29 games during four seasons over six years for Collingwood in the VFL. He was a back flank for Collingwood in the 1910 Grand Final win over Carlton. McIvor played in Collingwood's loss to Essendon in the 1911 Grand Final. This was his last game for over two years until he returned to play one more game in round 10, 1914, a win over Carlton. David Simpson (footballer, Born 1965)
David Simpson (born 12 April 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Simpson, who came to Geelong from Numurkah in the Murray Football League, appeared in the final three rounds of the 1984 VFL season. He was called up to make his debut, against Fitzroy, when Mark Yeates injured his hamstring in training and played at centre half-back on Garry Sidebottom. Phil Harrison (footballer)
Phillip James Harrison (born 27 July 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also played for North Adelaide and Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Harrison, a recruit from Numurkah in the Murray Football League, was a half back flanker in the Geelong reserves 1980, 1981 and 1982 premiership teams. He made seven senior appearances for the VFL club, two in 1981 and five in 1982. In 1983, Harrison played in the SANFL for North Adelaide. Jock Fahey
John Fahey (22 October 1911 – 27 June 1936) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fahey came to South Melbourne from Murray Football League club Numurkah. He made 12 games appearances in 1932, his debut season, which included a semi-final. In 1933, a premiership year for South Melbourne, Fahey played six games. He played 13 games in 1934 but missed the finals series after he scalded his foot at work. South Melbourne were losing grand finalists that year. He left South Melbourne in 1935 to take up a position as coach of Warrnambool in the Hampden Football League. They finished second on the ladder that year, with 10 wins and 5 losses, then progressed to the grand final, where they met minor premiers Mortlake. Bob McCaskill
Robert 'Bob' James McCaskill (27 September 1895 – 23 June 1952) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1920s and coached both North Melbourne and Hawthorn. Early life Born in Cobram in 1895, McCaskill spent his childhood growing up around Numurkah near Shepparton, Victoria. It was here that he learnt to play the cornet. He was also a fast running wingman and in 1914 his team, Shepparton, lost the Goulburn Valley Football League grand final. In December 1915 with the fighting in Europe during World War I McCaskill enlisted in Shepparton only to be discharged in May 1916 for synovitis of the knee. He was issued with the service number 36704. He travelled to Royal Park in Melbourne in September 1916 to enlist again with the Australian Army. He was passed fit on this occasion. Joseph Duncan Ritchie (26 September 1886 – 24 May 1975) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Alf George
Alfred Thomas George (7 September 1884 – 28 April 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne and Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). George was the captain of Melbourne for the 1912 and 1913 seasons. Early life George was born in Mount Egerton on 7 September 1884. He played football for Seymour, Numurkah and, finally, Essendon Association, before being recruited to play for Essendon. Football career Essendon George was recruited at the beginning of 1906 and he made his VFL debut in round 3 of that year, going on to play 16 games in his first season.
