David Simpson (born 12 April 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Simpson, who came to Geelong from Numurkah in the Murray Football League, appeared in the final three rounds of the 1984 VFL season. He was called up to make his debut, against Fitzroy, when Mark Yeates injured his hamstring in training and played at centre half-back on Garry Sidebottom. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Garry Sidebottom
Garry Thomas Sidebottom (21 November 1954 – 28 March 2019) was an Australian rules football player who played for the St Kilda, Geelong and Fitzroy Football Clubs in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) during the 1970s and 1980s. Career Sidebottom was a powerful and fearless player ideal for playing at centre half forward or as a ruckman. A versatile forward good in the air and hard in the clinches, he kicked 227 goals while at Swan Districts and 145 goals while in the VFL. He played in the inaugural State of Origin team for Western Australia in 1977 when Western Australia defeated Victoria. In 1984 Sidebottom kicked six goals for Western Australia against Victoria in another famous victory to the Sandgropers. He represented Western Australia fifteen times in state games. Mark Yeates (Australian Rules Footballer)
Mark Yeates (born 10 May 1960) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Yeates is best known for an incident in the 1989 VFL Grand Final when he felled Dermott Brereton after the opening bounce which saw the Hawthorn forward suffer a bruised kidney and internal bleeding. He left Geelong at the end of the 1990 season and for the next two years was captain/coach of North Hobart and led them to back-to-back Tasmanian Football League (TFL) premierships in 1991 and 1992 before announcing his retirement. Yeates was playing coach of Princetown in the Heytesbury Mt Noorat Football League for the 1996 season, but played minimal games due to injury. The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897.
