NUMMI
New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) was an American automobile manufacturing company in Fremont, California, jointly owned by General Motors and Toyota that opened in 1984 and closed in 2010. After the plant was closed by its owners, the facility was sold to Tesla, Inc. and reopened as a 100% Tesla-owned production facility in October 2010, becoming known as the Tesla Factory. The plant is located in the East Industrial area of Fremont next to the Mud Slough between Interstate 880 and Interstate 680. NUMMI yearly production peaked at 428,633 vehicles in 2006. Tesla Factory
The Tesla Fremont Factory is an automobile manufacturing plant in Fremont, California, operated by Tesla, Inc. The facility opened as General Motors' Fremont Assembly in 1962, and was later operated by NUMMI, a GM–Toyota joint venture. Tesla took ownership in 2010. The plant manufactures the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y, employing 22,000 people . Background Tesla had planned for an assembly factory in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a central location for shipping. Construction was supposed to begin in April 2007, but was canceled. A separate greenfield factory to be built in San Jose, California was also announced. However, the cost was prohibitive, and the company looked for alternatives. Nummi (Uusimaa)
Nummi (Swedish: ''Nummis'') is a former municipality in the Uusimaa region of Finland. In 1981, Nummi merged with Pusula to form the municipality of Nummi-Pusula. In 2013, Nummi-Pusula in turn merged with the city of Lohja, and nowadays the Nummi village centre is the 103rd district of Lohja. Before the 1981 merger, the neighbouring municipalities of Nummi were Kiikala, Lohja, Pusula, Sammatti, Somero (until 1977, Somerniemi), Suomusjärvi and Vihti. History In the 17th century, Nummi was part of the Lohja parish and had its own churchyard. In 1822, a new stone church was built in the neoclassical style by the shore of Lake Pitkäjärvi. In 1843, Nummi separated from Lohja to become an independent municipality. The Finnish Heritage Agency has recorded over a hundred relics found in the Nummi and Pusula area. Nummi-Pusula () is a former municipality of Finland. It was merged with Lohja on 1 January 2013. Its seat was in Nummi. Nummi-Pusula was formed in 1981 from the former municipalities Nummi and Pusula. It was located in the province of Southern Finland and was part of the Uusimaa region. Nummi (Turku)
Nummi (Finnish; ''Nummisbacken'' in Swedish) is a district and a suburb of the city of Turku, Finland. It is located in the north-eastern part of the city, just outside the city centre and south of the river Aura. It is the fourth largest district in Turku, having a population of 7,011 (), with an annual growth rate of 2.21%. 10.03% of the district's population are under 15 years old, while 8.17% are over 65. The district's linguistic makeup is 87.98% Finnish, 5.65% Swedish, and 6.38% other. Nummi is one of the oldest suburbs of Turku. ''Nummus'' ( el, νοῦμμος, ''noummos''), plural ''nummi'' () is a Latin term meaning "coin", but used technically by modern writers for a range of low-value copper coins issued by the Roman and Byzantine empires during Late Antiquity. It comes from the Greek ''nomos'' via its Western Doric form ''noummos'', which was used to describe a coin in some parts of southern Italy. The word was also used during the later years of the Roman Republic and the early Empire, either as a general word for a coin, or to describe the sestertius, which was the standard unit for keeping accounts.
