''Nukukehe'', released in 2002, is the third album by the Oceanic group, Te Vaka. This album is dedicated to environmental groups around the world for caring enough to do something about it. The song "Sei Ma Le Losa" was written for David McTaggart David Fraser McTaggart (June 24, 1932 – March 23, 2001) was a Canadian-born environmentalist who played a central part in the foundation of Greenpeace International. An excellent all-around athlete, as a young man he won three consecutive Cana ..., who was killed in a car accident the previous year. "Loimata e Maligi" (lit. "Let the Tears Fall Down") was written in memory of 19 girls who lost their lives in a fire at Motufoua Secondary School in Vaitupu, Tuvalu in 2000. The song was later rewritten as "An Innocent Warrior" for the 2016 Walt Disney Animation Studios film '' Moana''. Te Vaka (English: ''The Canoe'') is an Oceanic music group that performs original contemporary Pacific music or "South Pacific Fusion". The group was founded in 1995 by singer and songwriter Opetaia Foa'i in New Zealand. David Fraser McTaggart (June 24, 1932 – March 23, 2001) was a Canadian-born environmentalist who played a central part in the foundation of Greenpeace International. An excellent all-around athlete, as a young man he won three consecutive Canadian National Badminton Championships in men's singles (1956–1958) and represented that country in badminton's Thomas Cup (men's world team championship) competition. Prior to his involvement in Greenpeace he had prospered as a builder and developer. In 1972, responding to an ad in the newspapers, he used his personal boat to protest the testing of nuclear weapons in the Pacific by the French government. After getting his boat damaged and being physically hurt by the French Military, his protest succeeded in 1974 when the French announced the end of their atmospheric nuclear testing program. Motufoua Secondary School
Motufoua Secondary School is a boarding school for children on Vaitupu atoll, Tuvalu. it is the largest high school in Tuvalu. As Tuvalu consists of nine islands, the students reside on Vaitupu during the school year and return to their home islands during the school vacations. The school received worldwide attention in March 2000, when a fire in a dormitory at the school killed 19 girls and an adult supervisor. It was later discovered that the fire was caused by a student using a candle to read during the night. The school celebrated 100 years of education in 2005. Establishment The London Missionary Society (LMS) established a primary school at Motufoua on Vaitupu in 1905. The purpose was to prepare young men for entry into the LMS seminary in Samoa. This school evolved into the Motufoua Secondary School. The activities of the LMS were taken over by the Church of Tuvalu. Vaitupu
Vaitupu is the largest atoll of the nation of Tuvalu. It is located at 7.48 degrees south and 178.83 degrees east. There are 1,061 people (2017 Census) living on with the main village being Asau. Geography The island, which covers approximately , includes swamps, mangroves, a fringing coral reef, and a large lagoon.
