Nuggety Gully Water Race and Chinese Camp is a heritage-listed mining camp at Mareeba Mining District, Lakeland, Shire of Cook, Queensland, Australia. It was built from to . It is also known as Greasy Bill Creek water race, Prospect Creek Stone Walls, and Star of Normanby Mine. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Gold was first discovered "officially" in the West Normanby River area, southwest of Cooktown, in November 1874. The first official figures estimate that by the end of January 1875, over 600 men were on the field, many from Maytown. At this point no Chinese appear to have been allowed (by Mining Warden Philip Frederic Sellheim) to enter the diggings. However, by February 1878, at least 200 Chinese were reported to be working the alluvials. The Shire of Cook (The Shire) is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Australia. The Shire covers most of the eastern and central parts of Cape York Peninsula, the most northerly section of the Australian mainland. It covers an area of , and is the largest LGA in the state. The shire was established in 1919. The Daintree and Hann Divisions were created on 11 November 1879 as two of 74 divisions around Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''. The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. Philip Frederic Sellheim
Philip Frederic Sellheim (1832–1899) was a Hessian pastoralist and mining official in Australia in the latter half of the 19th century. He was born on 28 September 1832 at Konradsdorf in the Grand Duchy of Hesse. His parents were Heinrich and Marian Emma Sophia, née Schaefer. He was educated to a level which enabled him to study sheep breeding at the Royal Veterinary Academy of Berlin. Early life Sellheim emigrated to Queensland in 1855, and was employed as the manager of Banana station on the Dawson River for four years. He then joined George Dalrymple on an expedition to explore the Burdekin River catchment. Pastoralist In 1861 Sellheim and a partner took up Strathmore (near present-day Collinsville) a pastoral lease on which they ran sheep for five years.
