Nuevo Rocafuerte
Nuevo Rocafuerte is a town in Ecuador. The capital of Aguarico Canton in Orellana Province, it was founded in 1942 as a result of a battle which displaced the inhabitants of the original settlement and subsequent border agreements which made this location a key border spot on the border with Peru. It is the birthplace of 46th Ecuadorian president Lenín Moreno. Aguarico Canton
Aguarico Canton is a canton of Ecuador, located in the Orellana Province. Its capital is the town oNuevo Rocafuerte Its population at the 2010 census was 4,658 INEC 2010. Aguarico is part of the Cuyabeno Natural Reserve and Yasuni National Park. History Aguarico dates from the late nineteenth century during an estate boom on the banks of the Napo River in the Amazon region. During the invasion of Peru in Ecuador in 1941, Rocafuerte was taken by the Peruvian army after defeating the Ecuadorian military garrison on 11 August of that year. Following the armed conflict, almost all rubber plantations were abandoned. Orellana Province
Orellana () is an inland province of Ecuador. The capital is Puerto Francisco de Orellana (also known as Coca). It was created on July 30, 1998, from part of Napo Province. The name of the province derives from the explorer Francisco de Orellana who it is told to have sailed from somewhere near the town to the Atlantic Ocean. He did this trip several times looking for the gold city of El Dorado and in search of a rumored Nutmeg forest which at the time was a very expensive spice. During his voyages he met a ferocious tribe of Indians who attacked his ships and many among them were women. This led to the naming of the river as the Amazon river. Battle Of Rocafuerte
The Battle of Pantoja and Rocafuerte, known also simply as the Battle of Rocafuerte, was a military confrontation between Peru and Ecuador that took place on August 11, 1941, during the Ecuadorian–Peruvian War. Background Hostilities between Peru and Ecuador began on July 5, 1941, when fire was exchanged between both parties. By late July, a full-on offensive was being carried out by Peru in the coastal region of southern Ecuador, and fire was being once again (hostilities had occurred in the past) exchanged in the disputed Amazon as well. Cabo Pantoja
Cabo Pantoja, formerly Rocafuerte and Pantoja, is a town in the Torres Causana District of the Loreto Department in Peru. History The town, located in the confluence between the Napo and Aguarico rivers, was the location of an Ecuadorian outpost named Rocafuerte and a small Peruvian outpost who bore the current name used by the town, both established during the era of the territorial dispute between Ecuador and Peru. Subsequently, it saw action during several skirmishes, but most notably during the 1941 Ecuadorian–Peruvian War in the Battle of Pantoja and Rocafuerte.
