Nudimension
Nudimension were a francophone French Canadian new wave/synthpop band from Montréal, Canada who were active between 1982 and 1989. The band were composed of lead singer/composer Louie Louie (real name Louis Rondeau), non musician Marc Fontaine and - for a period - vocalist Anne Marie Cyr. They are best known for their 1983 single “ Amour Programmé”. The band achieved moderate success in the French-speaking regions of Canada and Europe releasing 5 singles and achieving regular radio play. The band also appeared on a number of North American TV stations during the early 1980s at the genesis of synthpop and music video. Principally recording in their native French language, they achieved crossover success in Anglophone Canada and Europe often recording English versions of their original songs. Anne-Marie Cyr
Anne Marie Cyr (born 1963) is a French Canadian singer, TV presenter and occasional model; who was active during the early 1980s. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Cyr came to prominence in her late teens on Montreal cable television assisting and presenting on shows such as '' Musi-Video'' (a forerunner to Canada's ''MuchMusic''). She fitted in her TV presenting and pop career with studying communications at Montreal's Concordia University. While working at ''Musi-Video'', she was asked to provide female backing vocals for the synthpop band Nudimension who were appearing on the show. Originally selected to appear with Nudimension mainly for her good looks, it would soon become apparent to band founders Louis Rondeau and Marc Fontaine that Cyr was also a very competent, bilingual vocalist, and she was retained to work on the band's two albums (one in French and the other in English). The Best Of Nudimension
''The Best of Nudimension'' is a greatest hits album by 1980s French Canadian synthpop group Nudimension. It includes the majority of their tracks recorded between 1981 and 1989. Songs are in French and English including the singles " Amour Programmé" and "Rendez-vous" (the anglophone version of original release " Obsession"). Nudimension stopped recording around 1991. Amour Programmé
"Amour Programmé" is a song by the French Canadian synthpop group Nudimension. The single is in the French language and was recorded at Fountain Studios, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Released by Illusion Records (Canada) in May 1983, it became a breakthrough single for Nudimension and was the first to feature TV presenter Anne-Marie Cyr on vocals. It achieved moderate success in French-speaking regions of Canada, charting in the top 20 francophone charts and in Europe. It was responsible for a number of Nudimension's early TV performances including Quebec TV’s prime-time ''Lautrec Show''. It was also released with a music video created by the band's Marc Fontaine, which was unusual for all but the biggest bands in 1983. The 222s
The 222s was a Canadian punk band active from 1978 to 2018. They are among the first original Canadian punk bands and the first to emerge from Montreal. They are best known for their 1979 single ''I Love Susan''. History The 222s, who took their name from the painkiller of the same name, was formed in 1977, by guitarist Pierre 'Al Cleann' Major and singer Jean 'Frisson' Brisson, bass player/drummer Angel Calvo, and drummer, keyboardist and singer Louie 'Louie Louis' Rondeau. The band played a handful of gigs around Montreal, mostly in high schools. Trans-X
Trans-X is a Canadian 1980s synth band formed in Montreal, Quebec. They are known for their hit song "Living on Video" which was a worldwide hit single. History Trans-X was started by Canadian musician Pascal Languirand, previously known for his albums in the ambient, cosmic and space music genres. The name comes from the 1977 Kraftwerk song " Trans-Europe Express", which Languirand thought "was catchy and reflected well the direction I wanted to take with Trans-X". In 1982 he recruited Montreal keyboardist and programmer Steve Wyatt as the second half of the Trans-X duo. Together they recorded a demo that got Trans-X a recording contract for a single, "Vivre sur Vidéo". Steve Wyatt played some synthesizer and did some programming on "Vivre sur Vidéo". He also composed "Digital World" and played all the instruments on the track, which was on the B-side of the single. ''Musi-Video'' was a music video series which ran in Canada between 1980 and 1984, syndicated to community channels across Canada. It was a very early example of the format that later would be adopted by the creation of MTV and MuchMusic.
