Novecento is Italian for “nine hundred” and refers to the 1900s (i.e., one-thousand-and-''nine-hundreds,'' which is a near-synonym for the 20th century). 20th Century
The 20th (twentieth) century began on January 1, 1901 ( MCMI), and ended on December 31, 2000 ( MM). The 20th century was dominated by significant events that defined the modern era: Spanish flu pandemic, World War I and World War II, nuclear weapons, nuclear power and space exploration, nationalism and decolonization, technological advances, and the Cold War and post-Cold War conflicts. These reshaped the political and social structure of the globe. The 20th century saw a massive transformation of humanity's relationship with the natural world. Novecento (group)
Novecento is an Italian band founded by Pino Nicolosi, Lino Nicolosi, Rossana Nicolosi, and Dora Nicolosi (née Carofiglio) in 1984. Their music has gone through a variety of genres, such as Italo disco (early work), synthpop, soft rock, pop rock, jazz, and funk. The band was active in the 1980s and the 1990s and became popular with the song "Cry" in 2008. Novecento's debut single, "Movin' On", sold more than 100,000 copies in 1984. The band went on to win the "Revelation of the Year" award during the national television event ''Azzurro 1984''. They were signed to Italian Five Records and Baby Records, with international distribution via WEA, Warner Music, and ZTT. After recording seven albums, Novecento disbanded in 1997. They briefly reunited in 2002 and again in 2008, when they scored significant success with the single "Cry". Novecento Italiano () was an Italian artistic movement founded in Milan in 1922 to create an art based on the rhetoric of the fascism of Benito Mussolini, Mussolini. History Novecento Italiano was founded by Anselmo Bucci (1887–1955), Leonardo Dudreville (1885–1975), Achille Funi, Gian Emilio Malerba (1880–1926), Piero Marussig, Pietro Marussig, Ubaldo Oppi, and Mario Sironi. Motivated by a post-war "Return to order, call to order", they were brought together by Lino Pesaro, a gallery owner interested in modern art, and Margherita Sarfatti, a writer and art critic who worked on Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, Benito Mussolini's newspaper, ''Il Popolo d'Italia, The People of Italy'' (''Il Popolo d'Italia''). Nik Novecento (19 February 1964 – 15 October 1987) was an Italian actor and television personality. Life and career Born in Bologna as Leonardo Sottani, Novecento's career was launched by film director Pupi Avati, who discovered Novecento when he was working at a gas station; Novecento starred in six Avati's films between 1983 and 1987. Alessandro Baricco
Alessandro Baricco (; born 25 January 1958) is an Italian writer, director and performer. His novels have been translated into a wide number of languages. Early life, family and education Baricco was born in Turin, Italy. He has earned degrees in philosophy (under Gianni Vattimo) and in piano. Career Baricco published essays on music criticism: ''Il genio in fuga'' (1988) on Gioachino Rossini, and ''L'anima di Hegel e le mucche del Wisconsin'' ("Hegel's Soul and the Cows of Wisconsin", 1992) on the relation between music and modernity. The Museo del Novecento ("museum of the twentieth century") is a museum of twentieth-century art in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. It is housed in the Palazzo dell'Arengario, near Piazza del Duomo in the centre of the city. The museum opened in December 2010. It displays about 400 works, most of them Italian, from the twentieth century. Collection Apart from a single room housing works by foreign artists including Braque, Kandinsky, Klee, Léger, Matisse, Mondrian and Picasso, the majority of the works exhibited in the museum are by Italian artists.
