Abraham Nott
Abraham Nott (February 5, 1768June 19, 1830) was a United States representative from South Carolina and a slaveholder. Born in Saybrook in the Connecticut Colony, he was educated in early life by a private teacher. He graduated from Yale College in 1787 and in 1788 moved to McIntosh County, Georgia, where he became a private tutor for one year. He moved to Camden, South Carolina, in 1789. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1791, beginning to practice in Union, South Carolina. He was a member of South Carolina House of Representatives from 1796 to 1797, and was elected as a Federalist to the Sixth United States Congress, serving from March 4, 1799, to March 3, 1801. After leaving Congress, he resumed practicing law in Columbia in 1804, and was elected a member of the board of trustees of the University of South Carolina in 1805. Lewis Nott
Lewis Windermere Nott (12 February 1886 – 27 October 1951) was an Australian politician, medical practitioner and hospital superintendent. He represented two federal electorates, more than and 21 years apart. Early life and war service Nott was born at ''Windermere'', a sugar-plantation located near Bundaberg, Queensland. He was the son of Frederick Lewis Nott, a planter, and Jean Blair. His older brother Frederick Lancelot was later a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Lewis Nott was educated at Maryborough Grammar School, Queensland. He then studied assaying at the School of Mines and Industries, Ballarat, Victoria before undertaking a medical degree at the University of Sydney. Nott Memorial
The Nott Memorial is an elaborate 16-sided stone-masonry building which serves as both architectural and physical centerpiece of Union College in Schenectady, New York. Dedicated to Eliphalet Nott, president of Union for a remarkable sixty-two years (1804–1866), the high by wide structure is a National Historic Landmark, noted for its distinctive and colorful Victorian architecture. Design Officially designated Nott Memorial Hall but referred to by generations of students and faculty simply as "The Nott", the building's centrality and initial design trace back to Josef Ramee's 1813 conception of the school grounds, the first planned college campus in the United States. The Memorial was designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter, architect of area churches and homes, alumnus of the college, and grandson of President Nott. In Norse mythology, Nótt (Old Norse: , "night"Orchard (1997:120).) is night personified. In both the ''Poetic Edda'', compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the ''Prose Edda'', composed in the 13th century, Nótt is listed as the daughter of a figure by the name of Nörvi (with variant spellings) and is associated with the horse Hrímfaxi, while the ''Prose Edda'' features information about Nótt's ancestry, including her three marriages. Nótt's third marriage was to the god Dellingr and this resulted in their son Dagr, the personified day (although some manuscript variations list Jörð as Dellingr's wife and Dagr's mother instead). As a proper noun, the word ''nótt'' appears throughout Old Norse literature. Major-General Sir William Nott (20 January 1782 – 1 January 1845) was a British military officer of the Bengal Army, East India Company in British India. Early life Nott was born in 1782, near Neath in Wales,Lloyd (1958), pg 686. the second son of Charles Nott, a Herefordshire farmer of Welsh background, who in 1794 became an innkeeper of the Ivy Bush Inn at Carmarthen in Wales. Nott was educated in Neath, and then at Cowbridge Grammar School but left education after his father became an innkeeper. Nott joined the volunteer corps in 1798 and obtained a cadetship in the Indian army and went to India in 1800 when under Company rule in India it was a key component of the growing British Empire. Tara Nott-Cunningham (born Tara Nott, May 10, 1972) is an American former Olympic weightlifter who competed for the United States in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. She is the only athlete to have trained for three different sports at the United States Olympic Training Center (gymnastics, soccer, and weightlifting). Born in Del Rio, Texas, Tara Nott grew up in Stilwell, Kansas. Her coaches were Mike Gattone and Bob Morris. She attended Blue Valley Middle and High Schools in Stilwell, KS and Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. She is married to free style wrestler Casey Cunningham. Samuel Nott
Samuel Nott (11 September 1788 – 1 June 1869) was one of the pioneers of American foreign missions. He was one of the first five foreign missionaries under American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to India, and established Bombay Mission station, the first Americans overseas mission station at Bombay, then-headquarters of the Bombay Presidency. He published several sermons and books, notably ''Sixteen Years' Preaching and Procedure at Wareham'', ''Slavery and the Remedy'', and many more. Peter Nott
Peter John Nott (30 December 1933 – 20 August 2018) was an English Anglican bishop: from 1985 to 1999, he served as Bishop of Norwich. Nott was educated at Bristol Grammar School, Dulwich College and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. He began his ordained ministry as a curate at Harpenden after which he was chaplain at Fitzwilliam College and then Rector of Beaconsfield. In 1977 he was appointed the suffragan Bishop of Taunton; he was ordained a bishop on 18 October 1977, by Donald Coggan, Archbishop of Canterbury, at St Paul's Cathedral. Peleg Nott (fl. late 18th century) was an African American leader who in 1780 became the Black Governor of Connecticut, an elected office that nominally presided over the state's Black community, estimated at 5,885 people at the time. Although they held little real political power, these governors were elected by fellow African Americans (both free and enslaved) according to traditional African custom, generally in accordance with their reputations for probity and influence and their owners' prestige. Kathleen Nott
Kathleen Cecilia Nott FRSL (11 February 1905 – 20 February 1999) was a British poet, novelist, critic, philosopher and editor. Life Kathleen Nott was born in Camberwell, London. Her father, Philip, was a lithographic printer, and her mother, Ellen, ran a boarding house in Brixton; Kathleen was their third daughter. She was educated at Mary Datchelor Girls' School, London, before attending King's College, London. She soon left King's College on an Open Exhibition scholarship to Somerville College, Oxford. The scholarship was in English Literature, but on arriving at Oxford, Nott switched to Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) in which she took a IVth in 1929. It was at Oxford that she met Christopher Bailey, an electronics and computer engineer, whom she was to marry in 1929.
