Notitarde
''Notitarde'' is a major newspaper printed in the Central Region of Venezuela. Based in the city of Valencia in Carabobo State, it also circulates in the United Aragua, Cojedes, the east coast of Falcón and Yaracuy, and with less traffic directed to Caracas. Despite its name, ''Notitarde'' is a morning newspaper. It has a daily circulation of 75,000 rising to 92,000 on Sundays. It was founded on 9 August 1976 by Jiménez Marquez's family. In 1989, it was acquired by Ricardo Degwitz, who decided to turn the paper into a morning. In 1997 it opened its new headquarters. Its main competitor in the region is ''El Carabobeño''. To expand its offering, it was decided to publish an edition for Puerto Cabello and the coast, ''Notitarde La Costa'' whose main competition is the Diario La Costa. Valencia () is the capital city of Carabobo State and the third-largest city in Venezuela. The city is an economic hub that contains Venezuela's top industries and manufacturing companies. It is also the largest city in the Valencia-Maracay metropolitan region, which with a population of about 4.5 million is the country's second largest after that of Caracas. The inhabitants were mainly hunters and gatherers who might have already developed some elementary forms of agriculture. El Carabobeño
''El Carabobeño'' has been one of the most popular newspapers in the Central Region of Venezuela. The offices of the newspaper are located in Naguanagua, north of the city of Valencia in the state of Carabobo. Its main competitor in the area is ''Notitarde''. In 2016 it discontinued its print edition citing problems sourcing newsprint. It has continued online. History Foundation The newspaper was founded by Eladio Alemán Sucre on 1 September 1933 under the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez. Eladio Alemán Sucre was forced into exile under the dictatorship, with the newspaper working under the area's best intellectuals, until Vicente Gómez's death in 1935. In 1948, the newspaper was headquartered in the Ayacucho building and by 1955, the newspaper had begun printing in a more "standard" size after their printing press was updated. A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. Puerto Cabello
Puerto Cabello () is a city on the north coast of Venezuela. It is located in Carabobo State, about 210 km west of Caracas. As of 2011, the city had a population of around 182,400. The city is home to the largest and busiest port in the country and is thus a vital cog in the country's vast oil industry. The word 'cabello' translates to 'hair'. The Spaniards took to saying that the sea was so calm there that a ship could be secured to the dock by tying it with a single hair.
