Norwegian Journal Of Entomology
The ''Norwegian Journal of Entomology'' is a biannual peer-reviewed scientific journal covering entomology, and arthropodology more in general, with an emphasis on Norway. It was established in 1920 as the ''Norsk Entomologisk Tidsskrift'', obtaining its current title in 1974. From 1979 to 1998 it was published under the name ''Fauna Norvegica Serie B''. The journal is published by the Norwegian Entomological Society and the editor-in-chief is Øivind Gammelmo. History The first issue of the journal appeared in 1921 under the name ''Norsk Entomologisk Tidsskrift''. The first issue bore the year 1920 as the year of publication, but it was not printed until May 1921. From 1921 to 1975, 21 volumes of the journal were published; some volumes were released over several years, whereas others came out at shorter intervals. Entomology
Entomology () is the science, scientific study of insects, a branch of zoology. In the past the term "insect" was less specific, and historically the definition of entomology would also include the study of animals in other arthropod groups, such as arachnids, myriapods, and crustaceans. This wider meaning may still be encountered in informal use. Like several of the other fields that are categorized within zoology, entomology is a taxon-based category; any form of scientific study in which there is a focus on insect-related inquiries is, by definition, entomology. Entomology therefore overlaps with a cross-section of topics as diverse as molecular genetics, behavior, neuroscience, biomechanics, biochemistry, systematics, physiology, developmental biology, ecology, morphology (biology), morphology, and paleontology. Karl Haanshus
Karl Harald Adolf Haanshus (December 26, 1860 – January 3, 1936) was a Norwegian physician and entomologist. He joined the Norwegian Entomological Society in 1915. He was its vice chairman from 1933 to 1935, and he was also a member of the editorial committee of the '' Norwegian Journal of Entomology''. Haanshus was born in Kristiania (now Oslo). He received a medical degree in 1888 and practiced for ten years as a city physician () in Fredrikstad. He then moved back to Kristiania, where he worked as a pediatrician until his death on January 3, 1936. Haanshus took an early interest in nature and insects, especially butterflies. He also processed the material from Ørjan Olsen's expedition to Siberia, Carl Sofus Lumholtz's trip to Borneo, and Alf Wollebæk's expedition to the Galápagos Islands. Scopus is Elsevier's abstract and citation database launched in 2004. Scopus covers nearly 36,377 titles (22,794 active titles and 13,583 inactive titles) from approximately 11,678 publishers, of which 34,346 are peer-reviewed journals in top-level subject fields: life sciences, social sciences, physical sciences and health sciences. GEOBASE is a database, multidisciplinary in scope, which indexes bibliographic information and abstracts for the Geographical, Earth, and Ecological sciences, published by Engineering Information, a subsidiary of Elsevier. The broad subject coverage includes earth sciences, ecology, geomechanics, human geography, physical geography, social geography and oceanography. Development studies are also included in this database. Coverage Coverage includes 2000 peer reviewed journal, and trade journal titles.
