Northern Ireland competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018. On January 3, 2017 Northern Ireland announced its decision to send a squad of 88 athletes to the games. A final team of 90 competed. Netball athlete Caroline O’Hanlon was the country's flag bearer during the 2018 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, opening ceremony. Northern Ireland has competed in nineteen of the twenty-one Commonwealth Games beginning with the second games, held in 1934. Northern Ireland did not compete in 1930 (when there was a single team from Ireland) and in 1950. It differs from the Olympic Games where although it officially competes with England, Scotland and Wales as part of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, many athletes have represented the Ireland team. Northern Ireland's participation in the Commonwealth Games is managed by the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council. Weightlifting At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
Weightlifting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held in the Gold Coast from April 5 to 9. The Weightlifting competition was held at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre. A total of eight men's and eight women's events were held. On 7 October 2016, it was announced seven new events for women were added to the sport program, meaning there will be an equal number of events for men and women. This marks the first time in history that a major multi-sport event will have equality in terms of events. This included the addition of an additional female event in the weightlifting competitions. Netball was one of the ten core sports at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which was held on the Gold Coast in Australia. This was the sixth staging of netball at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1998, and the second time the netball event was held in Australia. Cycling At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
Cycling at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held at the Currumbin Beachfront (road), Nerang National Park (mountain biking), both of which are located in the Gold Coast and Anna Meares Velodrome (track, located in Brisbane) from 5 to 14 April. A total of 26 events were held: 4 in road cycling, 2 in mountain biking and 20 in track cycling (including four events in para-track cycling). The 26 events were evenly split between men and women.
