North West Senior League
The North West Senior League is the provincial cricket league within the North West Cricket Union jurisdiction in Ireland, which covers counties Londonderry, Fermanagh, and part of Tyrone in Northern Ireland and County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. The league has fifteen members. The season begins with the teams divided into two groups, and after playing each other once the top four teams from each group play off as the Premier League to determine the champions, while the remaining seven clubs play a separate competition. It is sponsored by Long's Supervalu. Teams play each other twice per season, once at home and once away, each season, with two points awarded for a win and one for a tie or for “no result”. The league began as the County Derry League from 1894 until 1897, when it stopped after only five teams entered. It resumed again in 1904. Coleraine Cricket Club is a cricket club in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, playing in North West Senior League Premiership. They are affiliated with the North West Cricket Union and Cricket Ireland. The club was founded as the cricket section of Coleraine Rugby Football Club in 1958 and later merged with the University of Ulster at Coleraine team. History Coleraine Cricket Club was formed originally as the cricket arm of Coleraine Rugby Football Club in 1921 following the Coleraine Academical Institution's success in the Ulster Schools Cup. NCU Senior League
The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) Senior League is the provincial cricket league within the NCU jurisdiction in Ireland, which covers counties Antrim, Armagh, Down and south Tyrone of Northern Ireland. The league was formed in 1897 and is currently divided into four sections, namely the Premier League, Sections 1, 2 and 3. It is sponsored by Robinson Services and marketed as the Robinson Services Premier League, Robinson Services Section 1, etc. There are a total of 32 league members: ten in the Premier League; ten in League 1; and twelve in League 2. Ulster Cup (cricket)
The Ulster Cup was a knock-out cricket competition in Ireland run jointly by the Northern Cricket Union and the North West Cricket Union. The top eight teams in the previous season's NCU Premier League and North West Senior League 1 were eligible to take part. Matches are of 40 overs duration, but may be reduced to ten overs where delays or interruptions necessitate. Waringstown are the current holders after they won the trophy for the first time beating Bready in the 2017 final Brigade and Instonians are the most successful clubs in the competition with 4 wins each The competition was discontinued after the 2017 season, and from 2021 the Ulster Cup will be played for between the winners of the NCU and NWCU T20 Cup competitions. The Leinster Senior League is the provincial cricket league within the Leinster jurisdiction in Ireland, which covers the province of Leinster in the Republic of Ireland. The league was formed in 1919, the nine founding members being Phoenix, Leinster, Pembroke, Dublin University, Railway Union, Civil Service, U.C.D., County Kildare and the Royal Hibernian Military School. The league is currently divided into twenty divisions, the top two (senior) divisions are designated as the Premier League and the Championship. The Championship includes two member clubs from the Munster province: Cork County and Cork Harlequins. The North West Senior Cup is the most important provincial cricket knock-out cup of the North West jurisdiction in Ireland. The competition is open to teams playing in the North West Senior League. It is sponsored by Bank of Ireland and marketed as the Bank of Ireland Senior Cup. The competition began in 1888 as the County Londonderry Senior Cup, with twelve clubs entering the first competition in which Limavady beat Donemana in the first final at St Columb's Court, Lone Moor Road, Derry. Sion Mills Cricket Club
Sion Mills Cricket Club is a cricket club in Sion Mills, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, playing in Qualifying League 1 of the North West League, having dropped out of the North West Senior League before the 2015 season. The club was founded in 1864, under the patronage of the Herdman family, the local mill owners. It has won the North West Senior League on 28 occasions and the Cup 29 times. The club is remembered internationally as the host of the famous victory by Ireland against the West Indies in 1969. In 1947, Sion Mills entered the NCU Challenge Cup and won it at the first attempt, also doing the North West "double" of league and cup in the same season. Sion reached eleven North West cup finals between 1945 and 1962, and lost only one, also winning six league titles during the same period. Ardmore Cricket Club is a cricket club in Ardmore, County Londonderry, Ardmore, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, playing in the Premier League of the North West Senior League. Playing record The club has suffered relegation twice since the turn of the century in 2006 and 2008. A lone bright spot was reaching the final of the Ulster Cup (cricket), Ulster Cup only to lose to Strabane Cricket Club, Strabane in a rain shortened match. The club has a dubious history in the North West Senior Cup reaching the final on ten occasions. Their only victory came in 1994 helped by the performance of former Indian Test player Sanjeev Sharma, breaking a losing streak of eight finals. They also hold the record for the lowest score ever recorded in a final when they were bowled out for only 17 runs in the second innings in 1998.
