North Okkalapa General Hospital
The North Okkalapa General Hospital is an affiliated teaching hospital of the University of Medicine 2, Yangon, located in North Okkalapa Township in the eastern part of Yangon, Myanmar. Structure The North Okkalapa General Hospital was affiliated to the University of Medicine 2, Yangon in 1970. On 25 September 1996 the University moved to its present location in North Okkalapa beside the hospital. The hospital was originally designed to hold 400 beds. Although the building has not been expanded, it now holds 800 beds. In 2002 North Okkalapa General Hospital was the fourth in the country to establish a Neurology Center. As of 2007 it had two neurologists and one neurosurgeon. Fundraising On 12 September 1998 the Medical Superintendent of North Okkalapa General Hospital, Dr Myint Maung Maung represented the hospital at a ceremony where cash donations were made for a trust fund to help poor and needy patients. The University of Medicine 2, Yangon ( my, ဆေးတက္ကသိုလ်(၂) ရန်ကုန် ; formerly, Institute of Medicine 2) is a university of medicine, located in North Okkalapa, Yangon, Myanmar. The university offers M.B., B.S. degrees and graduate (diploma, master's and doctoral) degrees in medical science. The university is one of the most selective in the country, and accepts approximately 300 students annually based solely on their University Entrance Examination scores. North Okkalapa Township
North Okkalapa Township ( my, မြောက်ဥက္ကလာပ မြို့နယ် ) is located in the eastern part of Yangon. The township comprises 19 wards, and shares borders with Hlegu Township and Mingaladon township in the north, North Dagon Township in the east, Mingaladon Township and Mayangon Township in the west, and Kamayut Township, and Mayangon township and South Okkalapa Township in the south. North Okkalapa was one of the satellite towns established in 1959. Today, it is a firmly established part of the city, albeit with ''nominal'' access to the city's electricity grid and sewer system. It is located in the 5 to 30 minute drive zone to Yangon International Air Port, the primary and busiest international airport of Myanmar, located in Mingaladon Township. Myint Maung Maung
Myint Maung Maung ( my, မြင့်မောင်မောင်) is an obstetrician and gynecologist who became head of the North Okkalapa General Hospital in Burma. In May 2011 he received a Sayawun Tin Shwe Award. Maung Maung graduated from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1974. In November 1992, Maung Maung was a member of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Institute of Medicine in Yangon. He received a training grant from the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research in Human Reproduction.
