North Lincolnshire Council
North Lincolnshire Council is the local authority of North Lincolnshire. It is a unitary authority, having the powers of a non-metropolitan county and district council combined. It is one of fifty five unitary authorities. It provides a full range of local government services including Council Tax billing, libraries, social services, processing planning applications, waste collection and disposal, and it is a local education authority. Powers and functions The local authority derives its powers and functions from the Local Government Act 1972 and subsequent legislation. For the purposes of local government, North Lincolnshire is within a non-metropolitan area of England. As a unitary authority, North Lincolnshire Council has the powers and functions of both a non-metropolitan county and district council combined. 2011 North Lincolnshire Council Election
The North Lincolnshire Council election took place on as part of English local elections on 5 May 2011, with all 43 members up for election. Defending a majority of one, the Labour Party lost control of the council to the Conservatives, who won with a majority of three seats in the only Conservative council gain from Labour in the country. Election result The changes above is the difference from the previous full council election, although after a mid-term defection from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats were not defending any seats. Broughton And Appleby
Broughton and Appleby is an electoral ward in North Lincolnshire. It elects two councillors to North Lincolnshire Council using the first past the post electoral method, electing both councillors every four years. Since its creation in 2003 after boundary changes, it has continually elected Conservative councillors. Geography The ward encompasses the town of Broughton to the south along with the hamlets of Wressle, Castlethorpe, and Scawby Brook. The ward borders Ridge to south, separated by the A18 and the River Ancholme. Brigg and Wolds to the east, Frodingham, Town, and Crosby and Park to the west, and Burton upon Stather and Winterton to the North. To the north of the ward is the village of Appleby. 2023 North Lincolnshire Council Election
The 2023 North Lincolnshire Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect all 43 members of North Lincolnshire Council in Lincolnshire, England. This was at the same time as other local elections across England. The Conservatives retained their majority on the council. Background Following the 2019 election the council had comprised 27 Conservative and 16 Labour councillors. In October 2019 the former leader of the Labour group, Mark Kirk, left the party and sat as an independent. There were then three by-elections in May 2021, which saw the Conservatives gain one extra seat from Labour. The 2023 election saw the parties return to the same number of seats they had had in 2019. 2007 North Lincolnshire Council Election
Elections to North Lincolnshire Council were held on 3 May 2007. The Conservative Party lost its overall majority to the Labour Party. Overall turnout was 32%. Election result There were 3 vacant seats on the council due to the death of Cllr Dick Long. They were in the Brigg and Wolds ward and were filled in a by-election on 14 June 2007 by Conservative candidates. Before this by-election took place, Cllr Don Stewart of the Axholme South ward defected from the Conservatives, choosing to sit as an Independent.
