North District, Taichung
North District () is an urban district in the Taiwanese city of Taichung. It was a part of Taichung before the City and County were amalgamated in 2010. The North District is one of Taichung's major developed shopping, education, and cultural areas. History The district was a part of Taichung provincial city before the merger with Taichung County to form Taichung special municipality on 25 December 2010. District (Taiwan)
Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. There are two types of district in the administrative scheme. Ordinary districts are governed directly by the municipality/city government with district administrators appointed by the mayors to four-year terms. The mountain indigenous district is a local government body with elected district chiefs as well as district council serving four-year terms. Taiwan Water Corporation
The Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC; ) is a state-owned water utility providing water supply to most of Taiwan and offshore islands. The company is headquartered in North District, Taichung. History On 16 December 1972, President Chiang Ching-kuo instructed that a water corporation be set up to develop and unified public water supply system island-wide. On 1 April 1973, the preparatory office for Taiwan Water Corporation was set up by Taiwan Provincial Government. Taiwan Water Corporation was then inaugurated by the provincial government in 1974. Former chairman Hsu Hsiang-kun was arrested on bribery and corruption charges in September 2007, and indicted in August 2014. Hsu had contracted Kintech Technology Company to expand two water purification facilities in 2002. The project deadline was extended twice to November 2003 and March 2005. Yuanbao Temple
Yuanbao Temple ( zh, t=元保宮, p=Yuánbǎo Gōng) is a temple located in North District, Taichung City, Taiwan. The temple is dedicated to the Taoist deity Baosheng Dadi. History Historically, the area around Yuanbao Temple was known as Laicuobu, named after Lai family from Pinghe County that settled there. Wen Ying Hall
The Wen Ying Hall () is a cultural center in North District, Taichung, Taiwan. History The center was established in October 1976 by entrepreneur He Yong and funded by the Taichung Wen Ying Foundation. In 1997, the second floor of the building was converted into the Special Exhibition Room for Traditional Taiwan Block Print. Architecture The design of the building is a mix blend between western and Chinese style. The building consists of Zhunzheng Auditorium, Traditional Taiwanese Woodblock Prints Special Collections Room, Wen Ying Gallery and Training Room. Taichung Park
The Taichung Park () is an urban park in North District, Taichung, Taiwan. It is the oldest park in Taichung. It was built when Taiwan was under Japanese rule and is also called “Chungshan Park” (). History The park, originally called , was built in 1903 during the Japanese era. On 17 April 1999, Taichung City Government listed it as city historical sites. In recent years, people have celebrated Lantern Festival in Taichung Park. Features The park has an artificial lake which covers an area of 13,530 m2. It also has two adjacent pavilions in the lake which were built to commemorate the establishment of Crossway Railway in 1908. Facilities The park has facilities for kayaking in the lake, tennis court, outdoor platform and kids playground. Taichung Mayor's House
The Taichung Mayor's House () is a former residence of Taichung Mayor in North District, Taichung, Taiwan. History The building was originally built in 1929 for Japanese optometrist Miyahara Takeo under the name Miyahara Residence. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China, the building became the property of Taichung City Government and housed the official residence of Taichung Mayor. In 2002, the residence was declared a historical building. In 2004, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the city government converted into a public arts and cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Taichung Martyrs' Shrine
The Taichung Martyr's Shrine () is a martyrs' shrine in North District, Taichung, Taiwan dedicated to heroes of the Republic of China. History The shrine was originally a Shinto shrine to honor Japanese heroes. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, the Shinto shrine was reestablished and converted to a shrine that honor the National Revolutionary Army in 1970. Architecture The shrine was constructed with traditional Chinese architecture style. It has a rectangular shape surrounded by courtyards and garden. The Taichung Confucian Temple () is a Confucian temple in North District, Taichung, Taiwan. History The construction of the temple began in 1972 and completed in 1976. Taichung Broadcasting Bureau
The Taichung Broadcasting Bureau () is a former radio station in North District, Taichung, Taiwan. History The station building was opened on 11 May 1935 as the third radio station in Taiwan during the Japanese rule to broadcast radio and news to central Taiwan. In 2015, the ＠STUDIO obtained the rights to manage and operate the building. Exhibitions The station regularly exhibits design, photography, music and culture.
