The North Dakota Fighting Hawks baseball team was a part of the athletic program at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. History The team was a member of the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference. It played at Harold Kraft Memorial Field. The last head coach was Jeff Dodson. Grand Forks is the third-largest city in the state of North Dakota (after Fargo and Bismarck) and the county seat of Grand Forks County. Harold Kraft Memorial Field is a baseball venue in Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States. It was home to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks baseball team of the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference. It is named for Harold Kraft, former coach of the North Dakota baseball program who revived the program in 1956 after it had been discontinued in 1921. Kraft coached the program from 1956 to 1981. It has a capacity of 2,000 spectators. On April 12, 2016, the University of North Dakota announced it will be dropping its baseball program after the 2016 season due to budget cuts. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks (formerly known as the Fighting Sioux) are the athletic teams that represent the University of North Dakota (UND), located in the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Originally in the Division II North Central Conference, UND began transitioning to NCAA's Division I in 2008 with the football program participating in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). North Dakota is a member of the Summit League for most sports, the Missouri Valley Football Conference in football, and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference for men's hockey. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. Zachary E. Muckenhirn (born February 27, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets. Career Amateur career Muckenhirn graduated from Delano High School in Delano, Minnesota, in 2013. He attended the University of North Dakota (UND) and played college baseball for the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Jeff Dodson is an American former college baseball coach. He served the head coach of the University of North Dakota baseball program from 2009 until it was discontinued after the 2016 season. Playing career Dodson played two seasons at Bevill State Community College, earning an associate degree in 1989. He then played at Livingston University—now known as the University of West Alabama—completing his bachelor's degree in 1993. Coaching career In 1995, Dodson returned to Bevill State as head coach, a position he held for two seasons. He compiled a record of 31–77. In 1997, he moved to Martin Methodist College as head coach.
