North Carolina Highway 97 (NC 97) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina, connecting the cities of Zebulon and Rocky Mount with the vast rural coastal plains. Route description NC 97 begins at US 64 Business between the towns of Knightdale and Wendell. The nearest community is the unincorporated Eagle Rock. Through Wake County, the route closely parallels US 64, following it to the south. After passing through the unincorporated community of Lizard Lick, NC 97 merges with US 64 Business and forms the main east–west street through the town of Zebulon, Gannon Avenue. Wendell, North Carolina
Wendell is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. It is a satellite town of Raleigh, the state capital. The population was 5,845 at the 2010 census. History Incorporated in 1903, Wendell was settled in the 1850s, when farmers in Granville County were victims of a blight that came to be known as the Granville County Wilt. Their tobacco crops failed, and they chose to move to a new location with more fertile land for their crops. As settlement increased, a small village took form. The villagers asked the local schoolteacher, M.A. Griffin, to choose a name. Griffin suggested they call it Wendell, in honor of his favorite poet, Oliver Wendell Holmes. However, the townspeople pronounce each syllable with equal emphasis, not as the poet's middle name is said. The Town seal was adopted on April 4, 1963. Rocky Mount–Wilson Regional Airport is a public airport located seven miles (11 km) southwest of the central business district of Rocky Mount, a city located in Nash and Edgecombe Counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. North Carolina Highway 99 (NC 99) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina in the central Coastal Plain region of the state. It runs from NC 92 and NC 306 east of Bath to NC 32 and NC 45 south of Plymouth. The highway serves the towns of Belhaven and Pantego. NC 99 also serves as a partial link between Bath, Belhaven and Plymouth. The highway primarily runs through rural regions of Beaufort County, Hyde County, and Washington County. NC 99 was first established in 1935, running from U.S. Route 264 (US 264) east of Washington to NC 97 northwest of Pantego. North Carolina Highway 90
North Carolina Highway 90 (NC 90) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is one of the few highways in the state with an unpaved portion. Route description The western terminus is in Edgemont (in Caldwell County) at an intersection with Edgemont Road (SR 1420), Roseboro Road (Pisgah National Forest FR 981) and Edgemont Church Place (SR 1358). The first of the highway are quite curvy and unpaved. NC 90 enters Lenoir on Valway Road (SR 1352). The route then turns left onto N. Main Street to then overlap with US 321 on Blowing Rock Boulevard. NC 90 then turn left, after 2 miles, onto Wilkesboro Boulevard to overlap with US 64 and NC 18. North Carolina Highway 91 (NC 91) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina running from US 13, US 258, and NC 903 in Snow Hill to I-587 near Walstonburg, entirely in Greene County. Route description NC 91 begins at an intersection with US 13/US 258/NC 903 north of the main business district of Snow Hill. The highway immediately heads north into a rural area of eastern North Carolina. Many farms and forests are present along the first several miles of the highway, along with Lenoir Community College and Greene Central High School.
