North Carolina Highway 231
North Carolina Highway 231 (NC 231) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. NC 231 travels through Wake County, Johnston County, and Nash County between its southern terminus at US 64 Business in Wendell and its northern terminus at US 64 Alternate/ NC 98 near Spring Hope. Throughout Wake County and Johnston County, NC 231 primarily follows a southeast-northwest alignment. Entering into Nash County, NC 231 turns to follow a northerly alignment until reaching its northern terminus. NC 231 serves the towns of Wendell, Middlesex, and Spring Hope. NC 231 was first established in 1926 running between Elizabethtown and Delco in Southeastern North Carolina. Wendell, North Carolina
Wendell is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. It is a satellite town of Raleigh, the state capital. The population was 5,845 at the 2010 census. History Incorporated in 1903, Wendell was settled in the 1850s, when farmers in Granville County were victims of a blight that came to be known as the Granville County Wilt. Their tobacco crops failed, and they chose to move to a new location with more fertile land for their crops. As settlement increased, a small village took form. The villagers asked the local schoolteacher, M.A. Griffin, to choose a name. Griffin suggested they call it Wendell, in honor of his favorite poet, Oliver Wendell Holmes. However, the townspeople pronounce each syllable with equal emphasis, not as the poet's middle name is said. The Town seal was adopted on April 4, 1963. Buckhorn Reservoir
Buckhorn Reservoir is a reservoir in Wilson County, North Carolina, USA, created by the Buckhorn Dam. The reservoir is the primary water supply for the city of Wilson. The original Buckhorn Dam was built in 1974, upstream from the current dam. The reservoir at that time only had the ability to contain of water. In 1999, a new dam was constructed downstream from the older dam creating a reservoir with a much larger capacity. The new Buckhorn Reservoir covers an area of , and has a capacity of when fully filled. The dam is one-half mile long and was built with expansion in mind. The top of the dam was built to an elevation of above sea level, although the lake is only filled to the elevation. The dam is capable of holding another of water, but that would require changes to the spillway design. The Little River is a tributary of the Neuse River, which originates in Moore's Pond, south of Youngsville in Franklin County.
