Norrie Mine
Norrie Mine is an abandoned surface mine in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is located about northeast of Temagami North on the eastern shore of Net Lake in eastern Strathy Township. It is named after L. B. Norrie of New York, who first claimed the mine site. Development was carried out prior to 1920 with the construction of 10 open pits and a number of diamond drill holes. The primary commodities mined at Norrie were copper and nickel. Secondary commodities included lead, gold, zinc and silver. In 1941, of diamond drilling was completed under the supervision of R. A. Percy. Picked samples from waste rock dumps were said to contain copper and low nickel values. Sampling in 2005 assayed 0.15% nickel and 3.5% copper. Temagami
Temagami, formerly spelled as Timagami, is a municipality in northeastern Ontario, Canada, in the Nipissing District with Lake Temagami at its heart. The Temagami region is known as ''n'Daki Menan'', the homeland of the area's First Nations community, most of whom are Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), living on Bear Island. The official name for this group is the Temagami First Nation. However, a larger group that includes these people, plus non-status residents and some non-residents is called the Teme-Augama Anishnabai. Some of the main tourist attractions within the community include old-growth red and white pine, Lake Temagami, Caribou Mountain, fishing, showings of Grey Owl from the 1930s, and over of canoe routes. It is also known as the staging point for cottage vacationing and wilderness canoeing trips on Lake Temagami, in Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park, and vast tracts of wilderness in the area. Temagami North
Temagami North, formerly known as Goward, is a community comprising part of the municipality of Temagami in Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada. It is a residential subdivision centred on Spruce Drive, about north of Temagami itself. In 1924 the post office at Goward was opened to serve the needs of the lumber operation. At its peak, Goward had 36 houses, 3 bunkhouses, a small grocery store, a mill, blacksmith building and a one room school house. The lumber mill closed in 1965. In 1967, the post office was closed, Goward was to be demolished and the land reverted to the crown.
