Norridge School District 80
Norridge School District 80 is an elementary school district headquartered in Norridge, Illinois, in the Chicago metropolitan area. It operates two schools: James Giles School (grades 5–8) and John Leigh School (grades Pre-Kindergarten to 4). The district headquarters and board office are at the Leigh School. History In November 2016 the Superintendent proposed a tax increase that would bring in $60.6 million, but 77% of the voters rejected it. The district responded, in April 2017, by laying off three people who were in support roles, though it got back three laid off teachers and added a principal. The district is currently building a Science center that will promote on-sight learning in STEAM. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Illinois, the district began having both in-person and virtual learning options as vaccine usage increased. Norridge is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 15,251 at the 2020 census. The village and its neighbor to the east, Harwood Heights, together form an enclave within the city of Chicago (i.e. they are surrounded by the city). The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic began in the U.S. state of Illinois on January 24, 2020, when a woman in Chicago, who had just returned from the pandemic's place of origin in Wuhan, Hubei, China, tested positive for the virus. This was the second case of COVID-19 in the United States during the pandemic. The woman's husband was diagnosed with the disease a few days later, the first known case of human-to-human transmission in the United States. Community transmission was not suspected until March 8, when a case with no connection to other cases or recent travel was confirmed.
