Norman Maldonado
Norman Maldonado, (born 1935 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico), is one of Puerto Rico's top hematologists and served as President of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). In 1992, during his presidency, he also chaired the pro-statehood New Progressive Party's platform-drafting committee. In the years following the election, he helped the governor Pedro Rosselló to initiate the reform of Puerto Rico's health system. Since 2005, he has published numerous columns for The San Juan Star newspaper, many of them documenting Puerto Rico's medical history. The Puerto Rico Senate recently passed a bill naming the Puerto Rico Medical Center's University Hospital after Dr. Maldonado, the only medical doctor to have held the post of UPR President. Adjuntas
Adjuntas (, ) is a small mountainside town and municipality in Puerto Rico located central midwestern portion of the island on the Cordillera Central, north of Yauco, Guayanilla, and Peñuelas; southeast of Utuado; east of Lares and Yauco; and northwest of Ponce. Adjuntas is spread over 16 ''barrios'' and Adjuntas Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). Adjuntas is about two hours by car westward from the capital, San Juan. Adjuntas is nicknamed "the Switzerland of Puerto Rico", because of its relatively chilly weather. The New Progressive Party ( es, Partido Nuevo Progresista, PNP) is a political party in Puerto Rico that advocates statehood. The PNP is one of the two major parties in Puerto Rico with significant political strength and currently holds both the seat of the governor and of the resident commissioner. Pedro Rosselló
Pedro Juan Rosselló González, (; born April 5, 1944) is a Puerto Rican physician and politician who served as the governor of Puerto Rico from 1993 to 2001. He was President of the New Progressive Party from 1991 to 1999 and 2003 to 2008, and served as Senator for the District of Arecibo from 2005 to 2008. His son, Ricardo was also Governor of Puerto Rico from 2017 to 2019. In 1988 Rosselló ran for Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, but lost to Jaime Fuster in the 1988 elections. From 1990 to 1991 he successfully challenged former Governor and then-NPP President Carlos Romero Barceló for the NPP's presidency. Antonio García Padilla (born 1954 in Ponce, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican scholar. He served as the president of University of Puerto Rico from 2001 to 2009. Personal life Garcia Padilla was born in Ponce and raised in the nearby town of Coamo. He had five brothers, among them Alejandro, former senator and Governor of Puerto Rico, and Juan Carlos, current mayor of Coamo, Puerto Rico. Training García Padilla received his undergraduate degree in 1974 and his law degree in 1978 from the University of Puerto Rico and an LL.M. from Yale Law School in 1981.
