Norman Goodwin
Norman J. Goodwin (January 5, 1913 – April 2, 2010) was an American politician. A native of Austin, Minnesota, Norman Goodwin was born to parents Niels and Nellie Goodwin on January 5, 1913. He attended LaBarr Grade School before graduating from Austin High School. Goodwin earned a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1936 and 1945, respectively. Goodwin moved to Clinton County, Iowa, where he farmed and served as county extension director from 1951 to 1978. He was elected to his first term on the Iowa Senate later that year, and represented District 39 for four years as a Republican. Goodwin subsequently won two terms for District 19. Clinton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,460. Its county seat is Clinton. Its name is in honor of the seventh Governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton. Clinton County comprises the Clinton, IA Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Davenport–Moline–Rock Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Clinton County was formed on December 21, 1837. It was named for DeWitt Clinton, a Governor of New York and most ardent advocate for the construction of the Erie Canal. The cities of DeWitt and Clinton were also named after him. In 1835, Elijah Buell built a log cabin for himself and his family and was thus the first settler of the region. In 1854, the first newspaper was issued and in 1858, the Lyons Female College for girls opened its doors. The tuition was set at $175 per student. Bayport, Minnesota
Bayport is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 4,024 at the 2020 census. Bayport is located along the St. Croix River, one mile south of Stillwater. History The City of Bayport began as three small settlements along the St. Croix River. In 1873, the St. Croix Railway Improvement Company combined the three settlements into South Stillwater, which was incorporated as a village in 1881. Because many people confused South Stillwater with the city of Stillwater, the city changed its name to Bayport in 1922. Like its northern neighbor Stillwater, the early economy of Bayport centered around the lumber industry. From 1852 to 1916, several sawmills operated within the City. The Andersen Corporation is the successor to Bayport's early lumbering firms. The Iowa Senate is the upper house of the Iowa General Assembly, United States. There are 50 seats in the Iowa Senate, representing 50 single-member districts across the state of Iowa with populations of approximately 60,927 per constituency, . Each Senate district is composed of two House districts. The Senate meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Unlike the lower house, the Iowa House of Representatives, Senators serve four-year terms, with no term limits. Terms are staggered so that half the Senate is up for reelection every two years.
