Norm Campbell (rugby League)
Norm Campbell was a rugby league player who represented New Zealand in one test match against England in 1932 at fullback. In the process he became the 224th player to represent New Zealand. He also played rugby league for Auckland, Marist Old Boys, Otahuhu Rovers, and Papakura as well as the Otahuhu RFC Rugby Football Club. Early life Norm Campbell was born Angus Norman Campbell on March 30, 1908. His mother was Agnes Maud Campbell but there was no father's name recorded on his birth registration. In 1909 Agnes married William Getty Campbell and they had a daughter named Emily Rose Campbell on 5 October 1909. William had applied for a separation order from Agnes in March of the same year on the grounds of desertion whilst living in Mount Roskill. In 1918 a divorce was granted after she claimed he had physically abused her in February 1909, and she left him and hadn't seen him since. Maritime was a rugby league club in Auckland. They competed from 1918 to 1930 under the name Maritime for 4 seasons, Athletic for 4 seasons, Grafton Athletic for 3 seasons and Kingsland Athletic (following a merger with Kingsland Rovers) for 2 seasons, before the club was 'forced' to join with Marist Saints, Marist Old Boys in 1931. Ernest "Ernie" Asher (21 April 1886 – 10 April 1973), also known as Te Keepa Pouwhiuwhiu, was a New Zealand rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played representative rugby league (RL) for New Zealand Māori and New Zealand. City Rovers
The City Newton Dragons are a defunct New Zealand rugby league club that was based at Victoria Park, Auckland. The club was created in 1948 by a merger of two original clubs, the City Rovers and Newton Rangers. Both the Rovers and the Rangers participated in the inaugural Auckland Rugby League competition in 1910. In 2004, the club was absorbed by the Ponsonby Ponies, who play a match in the City Newton colours annually to keep the heritage of the club alive. 1929 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 1929 Auckland Rugby League season was its 20th. One of the key events of the season was the tour of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, South Sydney side. The First Grade Championship was won by Ponsonby Ponies, Ponsonby who defeated North Shore Albions, Devonport in the final 5–0. Marist Saints, Marist won the Thistle Cup for competition points accrued during the second round of matches where they went undefeated. They also won the Roope Rooster trophy after defeating Ponsonby Ponies, Ponsonby in the final 17–9. They weren't finished yet, defeating the same opponent to win the Stormont Shield 28–14. This was the second consecutive year that they won both of those trophies. Richmond Bulldogs, Richmond entered a team into the B Grade which was arguably the first ever 'reserve grade' team in Auckland club rugby league.
