Ernie Asher
Ernest "Ernie" Asher (21 April 1886 – 10 April 1973), also known as Te Keepa Pouwhiuwhiu, was a New Zealand rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played representative rugby league (RL) for New Zealand Māori and New Zealand. His brothers included John Atirau Asher and fellow international Albert Asher. Early life Asher was born in Tauranga in 1886, the seventh of eleven children. His mother was Katerina Te Atirau, a woman from the Te Arawa iwi, descended from Ngāti Pikiao and Ngāti Pūkenga iwi. His maternal grandmother was Rahera Te Kahuhiapo. His father was David Asher, a hotel keeper. His paternal grandfather was Asher Asher, who was a prominent Jewish trader during Auckland's early days. His great grandfather, through his grandmother Hannah Keesing Asher, was Henry (Hartog) Keesing, a prominent Auckland merchant and one of the earliest Jewish settlers in Auckland. Ponsonby Rugby Club
Ponsonby District Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Auckland, New Zealand. The club was established in 1874 and is affiliated with the Auckland Rugby Football Union. Ponsonby is the oldest extant member of the Auckland union, and the second oldest club in the Auckland region, after North Shore, who are now affiliated with the North Harbour Rugby Union. The men's premier team have won the Auckland Premier competition a record 45 times, including 33 times since the introduction of the Gallaher Shield, itself named after Ponsonby stalwart Dave Gallaher. Matthew Dallow
Matthew Dallow (born 27 January 1972) is a New Zealand bobsledder. He competed in the two man event at the 2006 Winter Olympics. He turned to bobsleigh after successive injuries forced him to give up his career in the decathlon and in rugby. Injury also prevented him at the last minute from competing in the 2002 Olympics. Simon Dallow
Simon Dallow (born 18 June 1964) is a New Zealand journalist, former barrister and television personality. Early years Dallow, who is the son of Ross Dallow, was educated at Liston College and St Peter's College. He completed his tertiary education at Auckland University, where he studied law. After completing his legal studies, Dallow practised as a litigation and insurance lawyer in Auckland, New Zealand. Whilst on his overseas experience, the 1987 stock market crash occurred, causing him to change careers, as a future in bankruptcy law was unappealing. Dallow then spent the next six years as a Contiki Tours tour director in Europe, where he met future wife Alison Mau. Both returned to New Zealand in 1993, and began working for TVNZ. Graeme Dallow
Graeme Augustine Dallow (18 August 1930 – 20 January 2014) was a senior member of the New Zealand Police, attaining the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. Early life and family Dallow was born in Auckland and was educated at St Peter's College, Grafton. He was the older brother of Ross Dallow and uncle of Simon and Matthew Dallow. Career Dallow joined the New Zealand Police in the late 1940s. He commenced duty as a constable in Police street patrols in Auckland and noticed how high the number of Māori offenders was and how much Police work was devoted to them. Ross Dallow
Ross Philip Dallow (4 December 1937 – 20 July 2020) was a senior member of the New Zealand Police who had an important influence on improved race relations in Auckland.
