Nordpasset
The Nordpasset, meaning "North Pass" in Danish, is a glacial valley in Peary Land, Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park.Google Maps The valley was first mapped by Lauge Koch during his cartographic air expedition of 1938. It was explored from the ground by Danish Arctic explorer Eigil Knuth together with Greenlander Jens Geisler in 1950 in the course of the Danish Peary Land Expedition. Geography The Nordpasset extends from the Harebugt at the head of Frederick E. Hyde Fjord for in a WNW direction until the head of O.B. Bøggild Fjord, part of the inner De Long Fjord complex. Hans Tausen Ice Cap
Hans Tausen Ice Cap ( da, Hans Tausens Iskappe) is an ice cap in Peary Land, northern Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. Age Ice cores show it is around 3500–4000 years old. It formed since the Holocene climatic optimum of 6000-8000 BP. It is a well studied ice cap, and is important to understanding the Holocene climatic optimum. Geography The ice cap is located south of Amundsen Land and the Nordpasset, at the western end of the De Long Fjord area, east of Freuchen Land across the inner J.P. Amundsen Land
Amundsen Land ( da, Amundsens Land) or Amundsenland, is a peninsula in central North Greenland. It is a part of the Northeast Greenland National Park.Google Maps The territory was named after Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen (1872 – 1928). Geography Amundsen Land is located in western Peary Land, to the south of Roosevelt Land, separated from it by the Harder Fjord and the Dreng Glacier ''(Dreng Brae)'' at its head. De Long Fjord
De Long Fjord is a fjord system in Peary Land, northern Greenland. To the northwest, the fjord opens into the Lincoln Sea of the Arctic Ocean. It is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. The fjord is named after arctic explorer George W. De Long. Geography De Long Fjord opens to the northwest east of Nansen Land and to the west of Weyprecht Fjord, separated from it by the island of Hazenland. Peary Land is a peninsula in northern Greenland, extending into the Arctic Ocean. Sirius Passet is a Cambrian Lagerstätte in Peary Land, Greenland. The Sirius Passet Lagerstätte was named after the Sirius sledge patrol that operates in North Greenland. It comprises six places in Nansen Land, on the east shore of J.P. Koch Fjord in the far north of Greenland. It was discovered in 1984 by A. Higgins of the Geological Survey of Greenland. A preliminary account was published by Simon Conway Morris and others in 1987 and expeditions led by J. S. Peel and Conway Morris have returned to the site several times between 1989 and the present. Eigil Knuth
Count Eigil Knuth (8 August 1903 – 12 March 1996) was a Danish explorer, archaeologist, sculptor and writer. He is referred to as the Nestor ("elder statesman") of Danish polar explorers. His archaeological investigations were made in Peary Land and adjacent areas of High Arctic Greenland. Knuth was made a Knight of the Dannebrog. Early years Knuth was born in Klampenborg, near Copenhagen in Denmark. His parents were count Eigil Knuth sr, a captain, and Dijmphna (née Gamel). His hero was the Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen who, in 1888, was the first to cross the Greenland ice cap; the trip was financed by State Councillor Augustinus Gamel, a Danish businessman, and Knuth's maternal grandfather.
