Nordhausen Tramway
The Nordhausen tramway network (german: Straßenbahnnetz Nordhausen) is a transport network, network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Nordhausen, Thuringia, Nordhausen, a city in the States of Germany, federal state of Thuringia, Germany. Opened in 1900, the network is currently operated by Stadtwerke Nordhausen, and has three lines, including one linking Nordhausen with nearby Ilfeld, running as a tram-train on the tracks belonging to the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways. Tram-train Nordhausen also practices a unique model of tram-train operation, in which dual-power railcars operate using electric power in the town, and change to diesel-electric to operate on the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways, Harzer Schmalspurbahn (HSB) line to Ilfeld. Tram-train
A tram-train is a type of light rail vehicle that meets the standards of a light rail system (usually an urban street running tramway), but which also meets national mainline standards permitting operation alongside mainline trains. This allows services that can utilise both existing urban light rail systems and mainline railway networks and stations. It combines the urban accessibility of a tram or light rail with a mainline train's greater speed in the suburbs. The modern tram-train concept was pioneered by the German city of Karlsruhe in the late 1980s, resulting in the creation of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn. Headway is the distance or duration between vehicles in a transit system measured in space or time. The ''minimum headway'' is the shortest such distance or time achievable by a system without a reduction in the speed of vehicles. Harz Railway
The Harz Railway or Trans-Harz Railway (german: Harzquerbahn) was formerly the main line of the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways (''Harzer Schmalspurbahnen'' or ''HSB'') and runs north to south right across the Harz Mountains from Wernigerode to Nordhausen. However, the tourist attraction of the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz, is so great that the Brocken Railway is effectively the main line today. The Trans-Harz Railway joins up with the Selke Valley Railway to Quedlinburg at Eisfelder Talmühle where all trains are organised to make good connections. BMW M67
The BMW M67 was an automobile diesel engine, used in the BMW 7 Series. It was first introduced in 1998, and used until 2009. The engine is a common rail turbodiesel V8 engine, V8 design, using DOHC, double overhead camshafts and 32 valves. It was the first luxury car application of a bi-turbo diesel intercooled V8 engine. The 3.9-litre iteration won the "3-4 L" category of the International Engine of the Year award in 1999 and again in 2000. It was replaced by the 6-cylinder BMW N57, N57 engine. Maschinenfabrik Esslingen GT4
The GT4 (from German: Gelenktriebwagen 4-achsig, which translates as ''4-axle articulated tramcar'') is an articulated tram vehicle built by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen from 1959 until 1965. History 380 GT4 trams were produced of which 350 were delivered to the Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen, the public transport operator of Stuttgart. The remaining 30 vehicles were delivered to Freiburg (19), Neunkirchen (Saar) (8) and Reutlingen (3). The 350 Stuttgart-vehicles were uni-directional, had three double-doors, and were built to gauge. The remaining cars were bi-directional and built with gauge, with the exception of the Neunkirchen cars, which were built to standard gauge. Harz Narrow Gauge Railways
The Harz Narrow Gauge Railways (German: ''Harzer Schmalspurbahnen'' or HSB) is a railway company that operates a network in the Harz mountains, in central Germany (formerly East Germany). The company was formed after the Second World War as a merger of two earlier companies. It owns about 140 kilometres (86 miles) of track, connecting the principal towns of Wernigerode, Nordhausen and Quedlinburg and several smaller settlements in the area.
