Nord-Fugløya
Nord-Fugløya or Fugløya is an uninhabited island in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark, Norway. The highest mountain is the tall Fugløykallen. Fugløykalven Lighthouse is located north of the island. Nature reserve The whole island is protected as a nature reserve which, along with the adjacent marine waters, has also been designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because it supports large breeding colonies of Atlantic puffins and razorbills. Karlsøy ( sme, Gálssa suohkan) is an island municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hansnes. Other villages include Dåfjord, Hessfjord, Karlsøya, Torsvåg, Vannvåg, and Vannareid. The municipality is made up of many islands including Ringvassøya, Reinøya, Vannøya, Karlsøya, and Rebbenesøya plus several uninhabited islands (many of which were formerly inhabited). Fugløykalven Lighthouse
Fugløykalven Lighthouse ( no, Fugløykalven fyr) is a coastal lighthouse in Karlsøy Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The lighthouse is located on the small island Fugløykalven northwest of the island Nord-Fugløya. This was considered one of the most isolated and difficult assignments of all Norwegian light stations. History It was established in 1920 and automated in 2003. The lighthouse is listed as a protected site. Fugløykalven Lighthouse is an octagonal cylindrical stone tower bearing a large lantern and gallery. The original 2nd order Fresnel lens remains in use; it displays 19 colored sectors, the largest number of any Norwegian light. The lighthouse is painted white and the lantern on top is red. Atlantic Puffin
The Atlantic puffin ('), also known as the common puffin, is a species of seabird in the auk family. It is the only puffin native to the Atlantic Ocean; two related species, the tufted puffin and the horned puffin is found in the northeastern Pacific. The Atlantic puffin breeds in Russia, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Greenland, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and the Faroe Islands, and as far south as Maine in the west and France in the east. Razorbill
The razorbill, razor-billed auk, or lesser auk (''Alca torda'') is a colonial seabird and the only extant member of the genus '' Alca'' of the family Alcidae, the auks. It is the closest living relative of the extinct great auk (''Pinguinis impennis''). Wild populations live in the subarctic waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Razorbills are primarily black with a white underside. The male and female are identical in plumage; however, males are generally larger than females. This agile bird, which is capable of both flight and diving, has a predominantly aquatic lifestyle and only comes to land in order to breed. It is monogamous, choosing one partner for life.
