Norbert Felsinger
Norbert Felsinger (born 17 July 1939) is an Austrian former figure skater. He is a two-time European medalist, having won silver in 1960 European Figure Skating Championships, 1960 and bronze in 1959 European Figure Skating Championships, 1959, and a seven-time Austrian Figure Skating Championships, Austrian national champion. He placed seventh at the Figure skating at the 1956 Winter Olympics, 1956 Winter Olympics and fourth at the Figure skating at the 1960 Winter Olympics, 1960 Winter Olympics. His skating club was Wiener Eislauf Verein (WEV). World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). The first World Championships were held in 1896 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and they have been held ever since with only four interruptions. A separate competition for women was established in 1905, with the men's and women's events held as separate competitions for several years. Pair skating was added in 1908 and ice dance in 1952. Skaters are eligible to compete at the World Championships, provided they represent a member nation of the International Skating Union and are selected by their respective federation. Skating federations have the liberty to make their own selections, but skaters competing at the World Championships must have earned the minimum required element scores. Figure skating at the 1960 Winter Olympics took place at the Blyth Arena in Squaw Valley, California, United States. Three figure skating events were contested: men's singles, ladies' singles and pair skating. It was the final time that figure skating at the Winter Olympics was conducted in a covered, but not enclosed, rink. On February 15, 1961, the entire United States figure skating team and several family members, coaches, and officials were killed when Sabena Flight 548 crashed in Brussels, Belgium, en route to the World Championships in Prague. The accident caused the cancellation of the 1961 World Championships and necessitated the building of a new American skating program.
