Nokian Palloseura (abbreviated NoPS) is a sports club from Nokia, Finland. The men's football first team currently plays in the Kolmonen (Third Division) and their home ground is at the Nokian keskuskenttä. The floorball team plays in the Second Division. Background The club was formed in 1968 and has provided for a number of sports including football, floorball, futsal, ice-hockey, table tennis, squash and basketball. The most successful section has been basketball between 1976 and 1993 but operations were then transferred to BC Nokia who currently compete in Division 1. Nokia () is a town and a municipality on the banks of the Nokianvirta River (part of the Kokemäki River) in the region of Pirkanmaa, some west of Tampere in Finland. Kolmonen
Kolmonen or III divisioona is the fourth level in the league system of Finnish football and comprises 104 Finnish football teams. The III divisioona was introduced in 1973 and in the mid-1990s became known as the Kolmonen (''Number Three'' in English and ''Trean'' in Swedish). The competition There are 104 clubs in the Kolmonen, divided in 9 groups of 10 to 12 teams each representing a geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents. Floorball
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with sticks and a plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. Futsal
Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt, hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and Indoor soccer, indoor football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. The Finnish football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in Finland.
