''Nootropics'' is the second album released by Baltimore indie rock band Lower Dens. It was released April 30, 2012, on the Domino Recording Company’s Ribbon Music label, the band's first album on that label, its debut ''Twin-Hand Movement'' being released on Gnomonsong. ''Nootropics'' was recorded at the Key Club Recording Company in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Lower Dens
Lower Dens was an American alternative indie pop band from Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The band was formed in 2010 by Jana Hunter, Geoff Graham, Abram Sanders and Will Adams. Lower Dens has released four albums: their debut on Gnomonsong and a follow up album on Ribbon Music. Their third album, ''Escape from Evil'', was released on March 31, 2015, on Ribbon Music. Jana Hunter
Jana Hunter is an American songwriter and musician based in Baltimore. Early life Hunter was born in Texas. Recording and band membership Hunter was signed to Gnomonsong, a record label run by Devendra Banhart and Vetiver's Andy Cabic. Hunter's solo debut album ''Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom'' was the label's debut release. In 2007 Hunter founded an independent record label based in Houston, Texas, Feow! Records, with musicians Matthew Brownlie of Bring Back the Guns and Arthur Bates of Houston band Wicked Poseur. Hunter was the singer and primary songwriter for Lower Dens. After releasing their debut, ''Twin-Hand Movement'', on Gnomonsong in 2010, Lower Dens were one of the first bands signed to the Ribbon Music label and released their second album, ''Nootropics'', on Ribbon in 2012. ''Stereogum'' is a daily Internet publication that focuses on music news, reviews, interviews, and commentary. The site was created in January 2002 by Scott Lapatine. Nigel Godrich
Nigel Timothy Godrich (born 28 February 1971) is an English record producer, recording engineer and musician. He is known for his work with the English rock band Radiohead, having produced all their studio albums since '' OK Computer'' (1997). He has also produced several projects by the Radiohead singer, Thom Yorke. He is a member of Atoms for Peace (with Yorke) and Ultraísta. Early in his career, Godrich worked as the house engineer at RAK Studios, London, under the producer John Leckie. He met Radiohead while working at RAK on their second album, '' The Bends'' (1995), for which he received his first production credit. Radiohead hired him to produce their next album, ''OK Computer'', which was a major success and brought him attention from major artists. Benton Harbor, Michigan
Benton Harbor is a city in Berrien County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is 46 miles southwest of Kalamazoo and 71 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. Key Club Recording Company
Key Club Recording is a recording facility founded in Benton Harbor, Michigan by musicians and recording engineers Bill Skibbe and Jessica Ruffins in 2002. The studio has been host to such bands as The Kills, The Fiery Furnaces and others. In January 2013, The Black Keys recorded tracks for their album '' Turn Blue'' at the studio after The Kills suggested using it. Studio layout The studio itself consists of four acoustically isolated playing rooms, two live and two dead. The Key Club offers 2", 24 track and 16 track recording as well as Pro Tools HD. Console Key Club's mixing console is a custom Flickinger N-32 Matrix originally built for Sly Stone.
