Nomar Angeles Isla is a Filipino basketball coach. Coaching career Isla had a long stint as head coach of the collegiate team, Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, guiding the team to win several championships at the National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA), Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) and University Games (UniGames). After coaching the Emilio Aguinaldo College team, he served as head coach of the Treston-Laguna Stallions of Liga Pilipinas regional basketball league from the league's inception in 2008 until 2011. On 2011, the Sarawak Fire Horse hired Isla as their head coach. Isla stirred the Malaysian team to the championships at the 2011 edition of the Malaysian National Basketball League. Isla guided the Sarawak-based team until 2013 with Australian Adam James Steere taking over as new head coach of the team. History The PBA D-League was conceptualized after the collapse of the proposed merger between the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) and Liga Pilipinas after the staging of the ''Tournament of the Philippines'' which was composed by PBL and Liga Pilipinas teams. The Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA), or Metroball, was a professional basketball league in the Philippines that ran from March 7, 1998, to July 26, 2002. History The MBA played its first game on March 7, 1998, at the Don Narciso Ramos Sports Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Unlike the Philippine Basketball Association, in which teams represent companies, the MBA teams represented a particular city, province or island in the country. The league brought basketball closer to the people, and it raided the PBA for talent. The MBA was widely viewed as broadcast giant ABS-CBN's attempt to undermine the PBA after failing to snatch its broadcast rights in 1998. The Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals are the varsity teams of Emilio Aguinaldo College of Paco, Manila. The Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA) is paired as the junior (high school) varsity team of the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC). The EAC-ICA Brigadiers is the junior team of EAC Generals. The Negros Slashers also known as the RCPI-Negros Slashers were a professional basketball team in the Metropolitan Basketball Association from 1998 to 2002. The team enjoyed considerable success, winning the MBA National Championship in 2002, the last season of the said league. The team was based in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.
