Nissim Eliad
Nissim Eliad ( he, נסים אליעד; 1 July 1919 – 15 November 2014) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Independent Liberals between 1968 and 1977. Biography Born Nissim Amsalem in Tiberias, Eliad was a member of the Maccabi Hatzair and Betar youth movements, as well as being amongst the youth leadership of Mapai. He studied oriental studies, bible and Jewish history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and also studied at a law school, where he was certified as a lawyer. In 1950 he joined the Progressive Party. For the 1965 elections he was on the Independent Liberal list (a party formed by former Progressive Party members after its merger with the General Zionists), but failed to win a seat. Tiberias
Tiberias ( ; he, טְבֶרְיָה, ; ar, طبريا, Ṭabariyyā) is an Israeli city on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. A major Jewish center during Late Antiquity, it has been considered since the 16th century one of Judaism's Four Holy Cities, along with Jerusalem, Hebron, and Safed. In , it had a population of . Tiberias was founded circa 20 CE by Herod Antipas and was named after Roman emperor Tiberius. It became a major political and religious hub of the Jews in the Land of Israel after the destruction of Jerusalem and the desolation of Judea during the Jewish–Roman wars. Histadrut
Histadrut, or the General Organization of Workers in Israel, originally ( he, ההסתדרות הכללית של העובדים בארץ ישראל, ''HaHistadrut HaKlalit shel HaOvdim B'Eretz Yisrael''), is Israel's national trade union center and represents the majority of Israel's trade unionists. Established in December 1920 in Mandatory Palestine, it soon became one of the most powerful institutions in the Yishuv (the body of Jewish residents in the region prior to the establishment of the state).
