Nirmonn
''Nirmon'' is a Goan Konkani film produced in 1966. It was directed by A. Salam and produced by Frank Fernand. The film features C. Alvares, Shalini, Anthony D’Sa, Ophelia, Souza Ferrao, Antonette and Jacinto Vaz. Cast and crew Nirmonn was Frank Fernand's second production. It had story and direction of A. Salam and music by Frank Fernand himself, dialogues by C. Alvares, screenplay and editing by R. V. Shirkhande. The film stars Shalini Mardolkar, C. Alvares, Anthony D'Sa, Jacint Vaz, Antonette Mendes, Ophelia, Jack Souza Ferrao and J. P. Souzalin. Inspiration Nirmonn is based on Lord Tennyson's character from the 1864 poem ''Enoch Arden''. Remake In 1967, it was remade into the Bollywood movie '' Taqdeer'', in which Shalini Mardolkar acted the lead role as in the original film. Frank Fernand
Franklin Fernandes (3 May 1919 – 1 April 2007), better known as Frank Fernand, was an Indian film maker and musician who is remembered for some of the earliest films in Konkani cinema, such as ''Amchem Noxib'' (Our luck) and ''Nirmonn'' (Destiny). Frank Fernand was born in Curchorem, Goa and had his initial training in music from Diego Rodrigues and mastered violin and trumpet. In 1936, he moved to Bombay. He began playing music under well-known band-leader George Theodore at Green's Hotel and Taj Mahal Hotel. In 1942, he left Mumbai for Mussoorie to play with Rudy Cotton's band and blossomed into a fine jazz musician. He lived and played in Delhi for a while the same year. In the 1940s, when he was playing at a resort in Mussoorie, Mahatma Gandhi happened to be passing through. Frank Fernand listened to one of his lectures, and it brought about a big change in him. Konkani () is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Konkani people, primarily in the Konkan region, along the western coast of India. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution, and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. It is a minority language in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat & Damaon, Diu & Silvassa. Konkani is a member of the Southern Indo-Aryan language group. Enoch Arden
''Enoch Arden'' is a narrative poem published in 1864 by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, during his tenure as England's poet laureate. The story on which it was based was provided to Tennyson by Thomas Woolner. The poem lent its name to a principle in law that after being missing a certain number of years (typically seven), a person could be declared dead for purposes of remarriage and inheritance. Background The hero of the poem, fisherman turned merchant sailor Enoch Arden, leaves his wife Annie and three children to go to sea with his old captain, who offers him work after he had lost his job due to an accident; in a manner that reflects the hero's masculine view of personal toil and hardship to support his family, Enoch Arden left his family to better serve them as a husband and father.
