Nirmala Devi
Nirmala Devi, also known as Nirmala Arun (7 June 1927 15 June 1996), was an Indian actress in the 1940s and a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Patiala Gharana. She is the mother of Bollywood actor Govinda. Nirmala Devi was the wife of the 1940s actor Arun Kumar Ahuja. She has five children, including Indian film actor Govinda and film director Kirti Kumar. She died in 1996. Personal life Nirmala Devi was born on 7 June 1927, in the holy city of Varanasi (then known as Banares), Uttar Pradesh. She was married to actor Arun Kumar Ahuja in 1942. They had 5 children, 3 daughters and 2 sons. The sons are Indian film actor Govinda and film director Kirti Kumar. Nirmala took to acting during the period of her betrothal and her first film to be released was ‘Savera’ (meaning ‘Dawn), with husband Arun as co-star. ''Bawarchi'' (translation: ''The Chef'') is a 1972 Indian Hindi musical comedy-drama film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee starring Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Badhuri with Asrani, A.K. Hangal, Usha Kiran and Durga Khote in supporting roles. This was a remake of Rabi Ghosh starrer Bengali film ''Galpo Holeo Satti'' (1966) by Tapan Sinha. The film was ranked the eight highest-grossing film of the year 1972. In an interview, Khanna quoted "In 'Bawarchi' I did exactly the opposite of what Hrishida had made me do in ' Anand'. He allowed me to interpret the role and perform my way. I had done enough intense roles, and 'Bawarchi' gave me the opportunity to interpret and perform the role the way I wanted. ''Anmol Rattan'' (Rare Jewel) is 1950 Bollywood drama film directed by M. Sadiq. The film was produced by Jaimani Dewan for his Dewan Productions banner, with music composed by Vinod. The film starred Karan Dewan, who was known as a "jubilee star" with most of his films becoming box-office successes. He was the younger brother of producer Jaimani Dewan. Karan's co-stars were Meena Shorey (credited, as she was in all her films, as just Meena), Nirmala, Gope, Madan Puri and Gulab. The story was written by D. N.
