Nine Guide
The Nine Guide was a television datacast channel provided by the Nine Network to digital television viewers in Australia. It began broadcasting on 21 August 2001, in Sydney broadcasting 24 hours a day. The channel expanded to fellow Nine Network stations in Melbourne and Brisbane in 2002. The Guide was modified for state-based programming and program promotions. The Nine Guide was shut down on Thursday, 13 November 2008, replaced by a full-screen simulcast of Channel Nine in preparation for the launch of multichannel GO!. 576i is a standard-definition television, standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for digitizing analog television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Because of its close association with the legacy color encoding systems, it is often referred to as PAL, PAL/SECAM or SECAM when compared to its 60 Hz (typically, see PAL-M) NTSC-colour-encoded counterpart, 480i. The channel was available to viewers on channel 77 in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The guide was also modified for state-based news and program promotions. ''Nine News'' (stylised ''9News'') is the national news service of the Nine Network in Australia. Its flagship program is the hour-long 6:00 pm state bulletin, produced by Nine's owned-and-operated stations in TCN, Sydney, GTV (Australia), Melbourne, QTQ, Brisbane, NWS (TV station), Adelaide, STW, Perth and NTD (Australian TV station), Darwin. Datacasting (data broadcasting) is the broadcasting of data over a wide area via radio waves. It most often refers to supplemental information sent by television stations along with digital terrestrial television (DTT), but may also be applied to digital signals on analog TV or radio.
