Nina Pens Rode
Nina Pens Rode (22 May 1929 – 22 July 1992), was a Danish actress best known for her 1964 performance in the title role in '' Gertrud'', Carl Theodor Dreyer's final film. Previous to this, she appeared in five other Danish films: ''Kispus'' (1956), ''Arvingen'' (1954), '' Husmandstøsen'' (1952), ''Kærlighedsdoktoren'' (1952), and ''Dorte'' (1951). Rode made her stage debut at the Odense Theatre in 1947. She was married to the actor Ebbe Rode Ebbe Rode (10 May 1910 – 23 May 1998) was a Danish stage and film actor. His father was the writer/critic Helge Rode and his mother the writer Edith Rode. Ebbe Rode was married to actress Helle Virkner. ''Gertrud'' is a 1964 Danish drama film directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer; it is based on the 1906 play of the same name by Hjalmar Söderberg. The title role of Gertrud Kanning is played by Nina Pens Rode, with Bendt Rothe as her husband, Gustav Kanning, and Baard Owe as her lover, Erland Jansson. ''Gertrud'' was Dreyer's final film. It is notable for its many long takes, one of which is a nearly ten-minute take of Gertrud and her ex-lover, Gabriel, talking about their pasts. The film opened to divided responses but is now considered one of Dreyer's major works. Kongens Lyngby (, Danish for "the King's Heather Town"; short form Lyngby) is the seat and commercial centre of Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is formally an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the City of Copenhagen. Carl Theodor Dreyer (; 3 February 1889 – 20 March 1968), commonly known as Carl Th. Dreyer, was a Danish film director and screenwriter. Synopsis The eccentric fashion designer Mr. Marcel gives his newly designed gown to the common working-class seamstress, Eva, when he sees how well it fits her. He then bets the actress who originally ordered the gown that if Eva wears his creation to an upcoming movie premiere, she will be accepted as a high-society woman. He is right and Eva attracts the young aristocrat Jakob. Eva fears that Jakob will discover her lowly background, but Jakob himself is a fraud.
