Nikos Politis (Νίκος Ε. Πολίτης, died 2005) was a Greek writer, journalist, and historian of Patras and sports. Stefanos Thomopoulos
Stefanos Thomopoulos ( el, Στέφανος Θωμόπουλος, 11 April 1859 – 31 July 1939) was a Greek writer and historian, who wrote especially on the history of Patras and its surrounding region. He was the son of the notary Nikolaos Thomopoulos, and was born at 74 Ermou Street in Patras. He graduated the local Gymnasium (High School), where, at the age of 12, he wrote in the school newspaper, while in 1879, he came first in an essay contest on the history of the city. He studied law in Athens, where he completed his doctorate in 1885. After service in the army, he returned to his native city to practice law. In 1911, he was appointed to a post at the National Library of Greece following a competition, where he worked until his retirement in 1933. Patras Carnival
The Patras Carnival, Patrino karnavali is the largest event of its kind in Greece. It has more than 180 years of history. The events begin on 17 January and last up to Clean Monday. The carnival of Patras is not a single event but a variety of events that includes balls, parades, hidden treasure hunt and the children's carnival amongst others. It climaxes in the last weekend of Carnival with the Saturday evening parade of carnival groups, the extravagant Sunday parade of floats and groups, and finally the ritual burning of the carnival king at the St. Nikolaos Street pier in the harbour of Patras. Panachaiki
Panachaiki G.E. (Greek: Παναχαϊκή Γυμναστική Ένωση, ''Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi'', "Pan- Achaean Gymnastic Union") is a Greek multi-sport club based in the city of Patras, Greece. The history of Panachaiki began in 1891, when Panachaikos Gymnastikos Syllogos (Pan-Achaean Gymnastic Club) was founded. In 1894, a rival sports club, Gymnastiki Eteria Patron (Gymnastic Company of Patras), was founded in Patras by former Panachaikos' members. It was only in 1923 that the two clubs agreed to merge, forming Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi. Throughout a history of over 120 years, Panachaiki's athletes have won several Olympic medals.
