The Star (1953 Film)
''The Star'' (russian: Звезда, Zvezda) is a 1949 Soviet war film directed by Aleksandr Ivanov and starring Anatoly Verbitsky, Alexey Pokrovsky and Oleg Zhakov. The film was completed in 1949, but was not released for four years.Liehm & Liehm p.63 It portrays a group of Soviet soldiers who are cut off and surrounded by German troops during the Second World War. The film was remade in 2002. Plot The command of one of the Soviet divisions becomes aware of the alleged enemy counterattack. The scouts sent to the enemy rear to clarify the data do not return. A new group of seven scouts under the code name ''The Star'' led by Lieutenant Travkin are sent. When returning after completing the task the group suddenly is faced with the German detachment. ''Sluzhili dva tovarishcha'') is a 1968 Soviet war film directed by Yevgeny Karelov with a script by Yuli Dunsky and Valeri Frid. The film is about the Russian civil war, in particular, the battle for the Crimean peninsula. Plot Two comrades and soldiers of the Red Army, Andrei Nekrasov ( O. Yankovsky) and Ivan Karyakin ( R. Bykov) were sent by their regimental commander ( A. Papanov) on a reconnaissance mission to film the White Army fortifications on the way into Crimea (Perekop). After filming, the engine on their airplane stalled and they were forced to land in unfriendly territory. Plot A group of young journalists accidentally walks into the restaurant ''Dandelion''. The atmosphere in the restaurant is extremely unhealthy: rude waitresses, thieving barmaid, wretched interior, ridiculous restaurant singer and deputy director Kutaytsev, who is constantly drunk and encourages this mess. However, the young and energetic director of the restaurant Tatiana Shumova is trying, unsuccessfully, to deal with shortcomings of the restaurant that she was entrusted with. Come Here, Mukhtar! (russian: Ко мне, Мухтар!, Ko mne, Mukhtar!) is a 1965 drama film directed by Semyon Tumanov. Plot An East European Shepherd is found abandoned in a rail car, and nicknamed Mukhtar. Second Lieutenant Nikolay Glazychev who was caused to the station, release the dog and bring him to the nursery. ''The Hussar Ballad'' (russian: Гусарская баллада, Gusarskaya ballada) is a 1962 Soviet musical film by Eldar Ryazanov, filmed on Mosfilm. In effect, it is one of the best loved musical comedies in Russia. With most of its dialogue delivered in verse, Ryazanov's script romanticizes the adventures of Nadezhda Durova during the Napoleonic wars. The swift paced, action packed, humor filled adventure is ingeniously mixed with light-hearted acting bravado and memorable operetta pieces. The film's musical score and songs were written by Tikhon Khrennikov. ''Cruelty'' (russian: Жестокость, Zhestokost) is a 1959 Soviet dramatic film directed by Vladimir Skuybin and written by Pavel Nilin. Synopsis Set in the vicinity of a small Siberian town, the film centers around a brutal gang led by the character Kostya Vorontsov. The local police, assisted by members of the Komsomol, investigate the operations of the gang and attempt to liquidate them. In one of the clashes with the bandits, the deputy head of the investigation, Veniamin Malyshev (a Komsomol member of the Civil War) is seriously wounded. In addition, Vorontsov's assistant Lazar Baukin (a former hunter and a soldier), is captured.
