Nikolai Sergeyev (actor)
Nikolai Vasilyevich Sergeyev (; December 3, 1894 – January 8, 1988) was a Soviet and Russian stage and film actor. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1970). Biography He was born in Ozyorki village, Shchigrovsky Uyezd into a noble family. He graduated from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts in 1925, and performed in the Red Army Theatre from 1936 to 1959. He died in Moscow, and was buried in the Vagankovo Cemetery. Shchigrovsky Uyezd (''Щигро́вский уе́зд'') was one of the subdivisions of the Kursk Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the northeastern part of the governorate. ''The Red and the White'' ( hu, Csillagosok, katonák) is a 1967 film directed by Miklós Jancsó and dealing with the Russian Civil War. The original Hungarian title, ''Csillagosok, katonák'', can be translated as "Stars on their Caps" (literally "Stars, soldiers"), which, as with a number of Jancsó film titles, is a quote from a song. The film was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, but the festival was canceled due to the events of May 1968 in France. It was voted as "Best Foreign Film of 1969" by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics. The film, a Soviet-Hungarian co-production, was originally commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution in Russia in which the Bolsheviks seized power. Theophanes the Greek (sometimes "Feofan Grek" from the russian: Феофан Грек, Greek language, Greek: Θεοφάνης; c. 1340 – c. 1410) was a Greeks, Byzantine Greek artist and one of the greatest icon painters of Grand Duchy of Moscow, Muscovite Russia, who influenced the 15th-century painting style of the Novgorod School, Novgorod school and the subsequent Moscow school. He was noted as the teacher and mentor of the great Andrei Rublev. Life and work Theophanes was from the capital of the Byzantine Empire, Constantinople. After studying art and philosophy at the University of Constantinople, he moved to Novgorod in 1370, and in 1395 to Moscow.
