Nightmaster
The Nightmaster is a fictional character, a sword and sorcery hero published by DC Comics. He first appeared in ''Showcase (comics), Showcase'' #82 (May 1969), and was created by Dennis O'Neil, Denny O'Neil and Jerry Grandenetti. Publication history Following his introduction in ''Showcase (comics), Showcase'' #82 (May 1969), the character appeared in the following two monthly issues, with Bernie Wrightson taking over the art. The character did not reappear for over two decades, returning for cameo appearances in ''Animal Man (comic book), Animal Man'' #25 (July 1990) and ''The Books of Magic'' #3 (1991). He had slightly expanded guest roles in ''Primal Force'' #11–12 (Sept.-Oct. 1995) and ''Swamp Thing'' #160 and #164 (Nov. 1995 & March 1996). Shadowpact
The Shadowpact is a fictional group of magic-based heroes who fought against the Spectre in the 2005 limited series ''Day of Vengeance'', published by DC Comics. They are a sort of Justice League for the supernatural elements of the DC Universe. Some of the team members are ''Homo magi''. Their self-titled series ended in May 2008, after 25 issues and a two-year run, but the team appeared in the '' Reign in Hell'' miniseries three months later. History The group is founded on a spur of the moment impulse by Enchantress, Ragman, and Detective Chimp to get rid of the Spectre because of his decision to destroy all magic in the universe. They are joined by Blue Devil, Nightshade, and Nightmaster, who christens the group the "Shadowpact". Detective Chimp
Detective Chimp is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. A common chimpanzee who wears a deerstalker hat (à la Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional sleuth Sherlock Holmes), Detective Chimp has superhuman-level intelligence and solves crimes, often with the help of the Bureau of Amplified Animals, a group of intelligent animals that also includes Rex the Wonder Dog. He was originally created in the final years of the Golden Age of Comic Books, during the interregnum between the former and the Silver Age of Comic Books. After his initial appearance in ''Adventures of Rex the Wonder Dog'' he continued to appear in that title as a backup feature until 1959, at which point he faded into obscurity. Charles J. "Jerry" Grandenetti (April 15, 1926 – February 19, 2010) was an American comic book artist and advertising art director, best known for his work with writer-artist Will Eisner on the celebrated comics feature "The Spirit", and for his decade-and-a-half run on many DC Comics war series. He also co-created the DC comic book '' Prez'' with Joe Simon. Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein's 1962 drawing ''Jet Pilot'' is based on a Grandenetti comic-book panel on the cover of DC's '' All-American Men of War'' #89 (cover-dated Feb. 1962), and Lichtenstein's 1964 triptych "As I Opened Fire" is based on panels by Grandenetti in "Wingmate of Doom" in issue #90 (April 1962). Bernie Wrightson
Bernard Albert Wrightson (October 27, 1948 – March 18, 2017), sometimes credited as Bernie Wrightson, was an American artist, known for co-creating the Swamp Thing, his adaptation of the novel ''Frankenstein'' illustration work, and for his other horror comics and illustrations, which feature his trademark intricate pen and brushwork. Early life Wrightson was born October 27, 1948, in Dundalk, Maryland. He received training in art from watching Jon Gnagy on television, reading comics, particularly those of EC, as well as through a correspondence course from the Famous Artists School. His artistic influences were Frank Frazetta, Al Williamson, Al Dorne, Graham Ingels, Jack Davis and Howard Pyle. The general theme of the series was to feature new and minor characters as a way to gauge reader interest in them, without the difficulty and risk of featuring untested characters in their own ongoing titles.
