''Night Shift'' is an Irish television music programme. Like its sister show ''Day Shift'', it was one of Channel 6's Irish programme. It was launched with the network on Sunday, 30 March 2006. ''Night Shift'' was transmitted late at night and sometimes early on weekend mornings. The show was hosted by Michelle Doherty and featured the alternative music scene. In 2006, ''Night Shift'' was voted the favourite music programme by ''Hot Press'' magazine readers. The last show aired on 31 December 2008. Channel 6 was replaced by 3e on 1 January 2009. Despite only airing for two years, the show helped launch many new Irish bands such as Director. Programme producer Elton Mulally has produced televised coverage of the Choice Music Prize for RTÉ2. Channel 6 (Ireland)
Virgin Media Two, also called Virgin Two, is an Irish free-to-air television channel operated by Virgin Media Television (a subsidiary of Virgin Media Ireland). History 2006–2009 Channel 6 was launched on 30 March 2006, then operated by Kish Media's subsidiary Channel 6 Broadcasting Ltd. Kish Media was a consortium made up of Tullamore Beta Ltd (Windmill Lane Productions & Paul McGuinness ( U2 manager); owners of TV3), the Barry family of Barry's Tea, and Gowan Group. In its infant stages, the channels consortium invested €14 million to fund the project. It was anticipated that Channel 6 would launch further channels including a Channel 6+1 service and a music channel. In 2008, Kish Media announced the channel was for sale. In July 2008, it was confirmed that TV3 had purchased Kish Media for €10 million. Irish Television
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. The Irish satellite fill-in service (Saorsat) is via Ka-Sat using the Irish KA band spot and has been available since June 2011. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks.
