Director (band)
Director were an Irish art rock quartet from Malahide in County Dublin. The group consisted of Michael Moloney (vocals/guitars), Eoin Aherne (guitars), Shea Lawlor (drums) and Rowan Averill (bass guitar). The band's 2006 debut album ''We Thrive On Big Cities'' was a critical and commercial success in Ireland. A follow-up album, ''I'll Wait For Sound'' was released in 2009. Career Style Director are known for their " art rock vision", having been educated in college; Moloney studied classical composition. They have been likened to Joy Division due to their "monochrome sound". They have also been praised for reproducing the "clipped, emotional blankness" of Wire. Although not as popular as the band's debut single " Reconnect", the single fared better than their follow-up single and charted in Ireland at number seventeen, spending only two weeks in the Irish Singles Chart. The release of this single coincided with Director winning Most Promising Act and Best Debut Album in the 2007 ''Hot Press'' Readers' Poll. Ambassador Theatre (Dublin)
The Ambassador Cinema was Dublin's longest-running cinema and was operational on and off until 1999. It operated as a music venue between 2001 and 2008. The Ambassador's current use is as an exhibition hall and event centre. The building was constructed as part of the Rotunda Hospital in 1764 as an assembly hall and social rooms on what is now called Parnell Street. From 1897 onwards, the venue was given the name Rotund Room and hosted a number of "moving picture" screenings which were a great novelty at the time. From about 1908 onwards, it was used more regularly to show film presentations and in 1910 it became a full-time cinema, with 736 seats, a basic layout at the time.
