''Night of the Pencils'' ( es, La noche de los lápices) is a 1986 Argentine historical film, historical drama film directed by Héctor Olivera (film director), Héctor Olivera and written by Olivera and Daniel Kon. It is based on the non-fiction novel, non-fiction book by María Seoane and Héctor Ruiz Núñez. It stars Alejo García Pintos, Vita Escardó, Leonardo Sbaraglia, José María Monje, Pablo Machado, Adriana Salonia and Héctor Bidonde. The film, based on the actual events recorded in history as the "Night of the pencils" (''La noche de los lápices''), tells the story of seven students who, after protesting for lower bus fares for students in the city of La Plata, were abducted in September 1976, during National Reorganization Process, Argentina's last dictatorship (1976 - 1983), and subsequently Forced disappearance, disappeared. Héctor Olivera (film Director)
Héctor Olivera (born 5 April 1931) is an Argentine film director, producer and screenwriter. Olivera worked mainly in the cinema of Argentina, but also has directed or contributed to several films made for the United States market. Biography He began his career when he was seventeen as a second assistant director and founded his own production company in 1956 at age twenty-five. He has produced over 100 features. In the United States he is known for two of his films: '' Night of the Pencils'' (1986) and ''Funny Dirty Little War'' (1983). After completing ''Funny Dirty Little War'', he directed five films for Roger Corman: ''Cocaine Wars'' (1985), ''Barbarian Queen'' (1985), ''Wizards of the Lost Kingdom'' (1985), '' Two to Tango'' (1988), and ''Play Murder for Me'' (1990). National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons (Spanish: ', CONADEP) was an Argentine organization created by President Raúl Alfonsín on 15 December 1983, shortly after his inauguration, to investigate the fate of the ''desaparecidos'' (victims of forced disappearance) and other human rights violations (see: Dirty War) performed during the military dictatorship known as the National Reorganization Process between 1976 and 1983.
