Nigeria Hockey Federation
The Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) is the governing body of field hockey in Nigeria. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF African Hockey Federation. The headquarter of NHF is in Abuja, Nigeria. Engineer Obadiah Simon Nkom is the President of NHF and Chimezie Asiegbu is the Secretary General. FIH is a governing body, which is responsible for certifying a Hockey Field/Ground. Currently there are no FIH Certified Fields in Nigeria. The Nigeria Hockey men's national team made history in January at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana finishing third at the tournament after a 4-2 win against Kenya. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. International Hockey Federation
The Fédération Internationale de Hockey (English: International Hockey Federation), commonly known by the acronym and initialism, acronym FIH, is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor field hockey. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. FIH is responsible for field hockey's major international tournaments, notably the Hockey World Cup. Abuja
Abuja () is the capital and eighth most populous city of Nigeria.
