Nicolette Fernandes
Nicolette Fernandes, (born June 19, 1983) is a professional squash player who represented Guyana. She won the only gold medal for Guyana at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia beating Samantha Terán in the final which lasts in 5 sets. In 2007, Fernandes suffered a knee injury which kept her out of action for 23 months. In February 2010, Fernandes was named Guyanese Sportswoman of the year for the year 2009 by the Guyanese National Sports Commission (NSC). Fernandes also appears in the WISPA 2010 calendar girl which features the top WISPA squash players in designer swimwear. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 19 in October 2013. On 28 August 2022, Fernandes became the first Guyanese to win a World Master's title when she secured a gold medal at the World Master's Championship in Poland. She is of Portuguese descent. Shelley Kitchen
Shelley Celia Kitchen (born 2 December 1979, in Kaitaia, New Zealand) is a female professional squash player from New Zealand. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Kitchen beat World No. 1 Nicol David of Malaysia in the third-place match to capture the women's singles Bronze Medal. She also won a Silver Medal in the women's doubles, partnering Tamsyn Leevey. Earlier in the year, Kitchen and Leevey won the women's doubles title at the World Doubles Squash Championships. In 2004, Kitchen finished runner-up in the mixed doubles at the World Doubles Squash Championships, partnering Glen Wilson. Kitchen had her first child in February 2010. After getting sick in an attempt to come back for the 2010 Commonwealth games, she announced her retirement in December 2010. Alison Waters (born 19 March 1984 in London) is a former professional squash player from England. Career As a junior player, Waters won her first major squash tournament – the British Under-12 title – at the age of nine-and-a-half. She retained the title the following year. She was a three-time runner-up at the British Open Under-14 Championships. She won her first professional title in 2005 at the Forbes Open, beating Carla Khan in the final. Waters won the British National Squash Championships in February 2010, beating Jenny Duncalf in the final 10–12, 11–7, 4–11, 11–7, 12–10. Waters also won the championship in 2008 beating Laura Lengthorn-Massaro and finished as the runner-up in 2005, 2007 and 2009. The Official Women's Squash World Ranking is the official world ranking for women's squash. The ranking is to rate the performance level of female professional squash player. It is also a merit-based method used for determining entry and seeding in women's squash tournaments. The rankings are produced monthly. The current world number one is Nouran Gohar of Egypt, who replaced Raneem El Welily in July 2020. The WISPA, the WSA and the PSA has used a computerized system for determining the rankings since April 1984. PSA ranking policy Players competing in PSA tournaments earn ranking points according to how far they get in the draw. The points available depend on the prize money and the draw size. Camille Serme (born 4 April 1989 in Créteil) is a former professional squash player from France. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 2 in February 2017. Career As a junior player, Camille Serme won three European Junior Championship titles in 2006, 2007 and 2008. A Portuguese Guyanese is a Guyanese whose ancestors came from Portugal or a Portuguese who has Guyanese citizenship. Demographics People of Portuguese descent were mainly introduced to Guyana as indentured laborers to make up for the exodus of former slaves who left the sugar plantations upon emancipation.
