Nicolas Bernardi
Nicolas Bernardi (born 16 May 1976) is a French rally driver. Bernardi made his World Rally Championship (WRC) debut in 1998 on the Monte Carlo Rally. In 2001 he contested the Junior World Rally Championship in a Peugeot 206, later returning for a second campaign in 2004 in a Renault Clio and finishing second in the standings to Per-Gunnar Andersson. In 2005 he won the French tarmac championship in a Peugeot 206 WRC run by Bozian Racing. He contested the German and British rounds of the WRC in the same model of car, entered under the banner of 'Equipe de France FFSA', but he retired from both events. After Markko Märtin stepped down from the factory Peugeot following the death of his co-driver Michael Park on Rally GB, Bernardi replaced him in the second Peugeot 307 WRC on the asphalt events in France and Spain. Markko Märtin
Markko Märtin (born 10 November 1975 in Tartu) is a retired rally driver from Estonia, who competed in the World Rally Championship from 2000 until 2005. Career Märtin, as understudy to then-team mates Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz, rose to prominence with the Ford World Rally Team in the 2002 season. He was leading that year's Acropolis Rally Greece until he suffered two punctures and fell behind the more experienced McRae. He won the equivalent event in Greece the following year as well as being only the third driver in the history of the WRC to break the Nordic stranglehold on the Neste Rally Finland. In addition to this, Märtin was inaugural winner, again with Ford, of the Corona Rally Mexico in the 2004 season. He also won the tarmac rallies of Corsica and Catalunya in the same year. 1998 Safari Rally
The 1998 Safari Rally (formally the 46th Safari Rally Kenya) was held between 28 February and 2 March 1998. It was the first World Rally Championship victory for Richard Burns and his co-driver Robert Reid after his teammate Tommi Mäkinen and fellow Briton Colin McRae both retired. Report WRC A total of 49 cars gathered in Nairobi for the Safari Rally of 1998. The young Briton, 27-year-old Richard Burns, won stage 1. But his more experienced teammate, Tommi Mäkinen, snatched the lead in stage 2. He was determined to win for the second time, as 1996's winner. But his hopes were dashed after his timing belt broke, causing him to retire. Burns retained the lead as a result, held it to the end, and won his first WRC rally in his career. 1998 Swedish Rally
The 47th International Swedish Rally was held between 6-8 February 1998. Report WRC: Round 2 It was the first World Rally Championship victory of the season for defending champion Tommi Mäkinen. He beat the Toyota Corolla of Carlos Sainz and the Ford Escort WRC of Juha Kankkunen, ensuring that current and former World Rally Champions swept the podium. The home driver Thomas Rådström led for most of the event, but crashed on stage 12, allowing Mäkinen to snatch victory. The Scotsman Colin McRae also went out on stage 12, when electrical gremlins struck his Subaru Impreza WRC. PWRC: Round 2 The PWRC was also won by Stig-Olov Walfridson. Peugeot 106 Rallye
The Peugeot 106 is a supermini produced by French automaker Peugeot between 1991 and 2003. Launched in September 1991, it was Peugeot's entry level offering throughout its production life, and was initially sold only as a three door hatchback, with a five door hatchback joining the range in the beginning of 1992. Production ended in July 2003. For the first year of production, the 1.0 and 1.1 petrol engines came with a carburettor, but were replaced by fuel injected engines from the end of 1992, as a result of EEC emissions regulations. Phase I (1991–1996) The "10" line of Peugeot superminis had commenced in 1972 with the launch of the 104, one of the first modern European superminis. Suzuki SX4 WRC
The Suzuki SX4 WRC is a World Rally Car built for the Suzuki World Rally Team by Suzuki in the World Rally Championship. It is based upon the Suzuki SX4 road car, and was debuted at the 2007 Tour de Corse. Competition history World Rally Championship At the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, Suzuki announced it would enter the FIA World Rally Championship, with the factory backed Suzuki World Rally Team in the World Rally Car category in 2007, using the SX4 WRC with AWD and the J20 engine producing and of torque. However, due to WRC calendar changes Suzuki officially debuted in 2008, using the season of 2007 as further development time for the SX4. The SX4 competed on a test basis in two 2007 WRC events: the Rallye de France in October 2007 (finishing 31st overall) and the Rally GB in November 2007 (finishing 27th overall).
