Nicodème Audet
Nicodème Audet (September 14, 1822 – April 19, 1905) was a merchant and political figure in Quebec. He represented Dorchester in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1878 to 1886 as a Conservative. His name also appears as Nicodème Audet, dit Lapointe. He was born in Saint-Gervais, Lower Canada, the son of Augustin Audet dit Lapointe and Marie Dallaire, and was educated in Saint-Anselme. He set up business in Saint-Anselme. He married Marie-Célina Turgeon in 1856. Legislative Council Of Quebec
The Legislative Council of Quebec (French; ''Conseil législatif du Québec'') was the unelected upper house of the bicameral legislature in the Canadian province of Quebec from 1867 to 1968. The Legislative Assembly of Quebec, Legislative Assembly was the elected lower house. The council was composed of 24 members, appointed by the Lieutenant-Governors of Quebec, Lieutenant Governor upon the recommendation of the Premier of Quebec, Premier. Each councillor nominally represented a portion of the Province of Quebec called a division. The boundaries of these divisions were identical to the ones used for Canada East by the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada and were also identical to the boundaries still used today by the Senate of Canada for Quebec. The division boundaries were never changed to accommodate territorial expansions of Quebec in 1898 and 1912. Louis-Napoléon Larochelle
Louis-Napoléon LaRochelle (November 14, 1834 – October 27, 1890) was a manufacturer, railway contractor and political figure in Quebec. He represented Dorchester in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1871 to 1878 and from 1886 to 1888 as a Conservative. He was born in Saint-Anselme, Lower Canada, the son of Siméon Gautron, dit Larochelle and Sophie Pomerleau. LaRochelle was educated at the Petit Séminaire de Québec. He took over the operation of his father's businesses when his father died in 1859. In 1876, he married Georgiana Plants. He served on the board of directors for the Levis and Kennebec Railway with Joseph-Godric Blanchet, Hector-Louis Langevin and Christian Pozer; he was later involved in a bitter and public dispute with Charles Armstrong Scott about who was to blame for the railway's financial failure. Blaise-Ferdinand Letellier
Blaise-Ferdinand Letellier, (June 22, 1862 – December 15, 1930) was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and judge. Born in Lévis, Canada East, the son of Blaise Letellier and Émérentienne Lacombe. Letellier was educated at the Séminaire de Québec and Université Laval. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1886 and was created a King's Counsel in 1903. He practised law in Quebec City. He was a defeated candidate for the Legislative Assembly of Quebec in the riding of Dorchester in 1900 and in Beauce in a 1902 by-election. He was appointed to the Legislative Council of Quebec for the division of Lauzon in 1905. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. When the Assembly was renamed so too was the title of its presiding officer, becoming known as the President. Today, Quebec has a unicameral legislature, whose single house is the National Assembly. Dorchester was a provincial electoral district in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809). Lower Canada consisted of part of the former colony of Canada of New France, conquered by Great Britain in the Seven Years' War ending in 1763 (also called the French and Indian War in the United States).
